The Bourne series may gain ground on the James Bond franchise, but it certainly showed how Bond should be in a movie: dark and heavy on the ass kicking.

The Bourne Ultimatum takes place about six weeks after the second movie left off, as CIA officials are still after the illusive super agent. Noah Vosen heads the hunt that starts when a London reporter prints a story about Bourne and the Treadstone project using an unnamed source from within the CIA. Vosen seems to have a hunch that it’s Bourne and uses all his resources to get him no matter the cost.

Jason receives help from an unlikely person after Nicky Parsons walks in after Bourne dismantles two agents sent to kill him. (She is the only person who has been in all three movies besides Jason. Alive that is.)

Bourne returns home to New York City and what plays out is an awe-inspiring car chase. Although it doesn’t come close to the one in the second film, the realness of it makes it better than others we have seen in recent movies.

Ultimatum pulls everything out for the trilogy ender with the casting of two great actors. David Strathairn is a very very underrated actor. He is someone who could’ve been your typical CIA agency head and instead Strathairn gives the character some needed weight, one who can stand toe-to-toe with the talented Joan Allen. Scott Glenn is the other actor that I think added a little gusto to the movie. Small but noticeable.

In the end, though, The Bourne Ultimatum closes up what Identity started. As it should, it’s a trilogy. And of coarse it’s open for yet another storyline, if the movie execs decide to let us watch Damon kick more ass.

Overall Rating - 

I would recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the first two films. In my humble opinion this is the best of the series.
