81st Academy Awards Nominations are in!

Oscars air live on February 22nd

Oscars air live on February 22nd

The nominations for the 81st annual Academy Awards are in and to be honest not to surprising. The group behind the noms are getting to be pretty predictable. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button brought in 13 nominations to lead all other films.

Other films such as Slumdog Millionaire, scored 10 nominations.

My personal favorite of 2008, The Dark Knight, failed to earn nominations in both the best picture and best director categories. Personally I would not think it would win because of all the old farts on the board, but the money it earned alone should of been a hint to the old fogies that someone enjoyed it.

Heath Ledger did get his Best Supporting Actor nod. If he doesn’t win, there may be a broken TV in Maryland somewhere. I would be sure to bet that he is the leading candidate for the win.

Another favorite movie of mine, GranTorino was snubbed in a few categories also.

The Oscars will be on TV February 22nd live from the Kodak Theater in a Hollywood.

This was a disapointing Oscar nomination list. TDK I think is easily the best movie of the year and besides technical categories it got way over looked. I'm glad that Heath earned a nomination but I still think Chris Nolan got overlooked for screenplay and direction.

Please tell me who The Dark Knight can make a billion dollars and not get nominated for best picture, what a joke. How pretenious does the oscar have to be not to at least give it a nomination. No one cares about The Reader, Frost Nixon, Benjamin Button, Milk, or Slumdog? The people have already told you what the best film of the year is, not all blockbusters deserve best picture, but there is a reason it is the second highest grossing movie of all time next to Titanic(which won best picture). Its bad enough the oscars do not give nods to comedians, I do not know how they still justify not giving Jim Carrey one for Truman Show, Man on the Moon, or Eternal Sunshine. I am absolutely stunded that Robert Downey Jr. got a nom this year, but what a joke the TDK isnt even nominated when it is a no brainer that it is the best movie of the year. Congratulations Oscars, you just proved that you have zero credibilty.
  • I enjoyed The Dark Knight, it's a great film, but to suggest that any film should be nominated for best picture based on the fact it made over a billion dollars is ludicrous.

Going on that basis surely they ought to nominate the top five grossing films of the year? There are plenty of ceremonies out there who'll be only too happy to give awards to films based on how much money they've made.

I'd like to see Slumdog Millionaire win the award as it's an incredible film.

In fact, while I am here, my two cents.

This is why I don't look forward on watching the Oscars anymore. Their are some movies this year who got the noms but really don't deserve it. I hope they'll replace all the old members and chance the way they look into movies. I won't be watching this year because I'll find something better to watch or do that night.
