A Glimpse of Shia LeBeouf & Michael Douglas in Wall Street 2

The first pictures have surfaced from the set of Oliver Stone’s Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, the sequel to the classic Wall Street which starred Michael Douglas, Charlie Sheen, and his father Martin Sheen. This time around, we’ll be seeing Douglas’ Gordon Gekko as he finally emerges from a prison sentence  that began in the first film.

According to a source, “Jacob, [a young Wall Street trader] played by Shia LaBouf, partners with the disgraced corporate raider for a mission to alert the financial community to the impending credit crisis.” This is an interesting turn for Gekko’s character, suggesting that the tone of the film may be quite different than the aggressive original. Gekko attempts to step between Jacob and his mentor Lewis (Frank Langella) in order to reinsert himself into the life of his daughter Winnie, who’s married to Jacob.

I don’t doubt that Stone has much to say about the current state of our economy and how the landscape of things has changed since the release of the first film. I’m intrigued by the arc of Gekko’s character — has prison time reformed his character, or is he still acting out of self interest? Time will tell. Wall Street 2 is scheduled for release in April of 2010.

Thanks to /Film for the heads up.
