Boondock Saints II Trailer — Redux
(Note — We first posted a trailer for Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day a month or so back, but it got yanked down by Sony. Here’s the trailer again in all its glory.)
I first caught Boondock Saints when I was young and hadn’t had much of an exposure to the work of Quentin Tarantino. As you might imagine, Troy Duffy’s film seemed stunningly original to me, and I loved the goofy bloodiness of the whole affair. Now that I’m older and wizened, however, I have realized that the main redeeming quality of the film is Willem Dafoe, who isn’t in the sequel at all.
Instead, it looks as if we get a female protegee and much of the same business as the first entry — a hipness/Billy Connolly sandwich. Which is all well and good, if you’re a die hard fan of the original (and judging by the amount of posters you see hanging in dorm rooms, this has an audience), but to others it’ll be met with a shrug. The original film was ten years ago — can the fanbase sustain a sequel’s success?
I will say this for Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, however: it looks much less DTV than I imagined it’d be, and certainly doesn’t look bad. If the trailer’s up your alley, go check the film out on October 30.
