Bruce Campbell, B-movie actor extraordinaire famous for his role as Ash in the Evil Dead films, is the unsung hero in my movie-going life. Those films were what got me interested in the filmmaking craft, and the reason they were so magnetic is because of his ludicrous performance.
And while it was great to see him as peripheral characters in Sam Raimi’s Spiderman films, it’s even better news to hear that he’s got a larger role in the next film, which starts shooting in January.
Access Hollywood got the information from Campbell himself at the Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs premiere. Details about the role itself are nil — Campbell doesn’t even know yet.
It’s been rumored for a while (actually, just bandied about by fanboys) that Campbell would eventually be playing Mysterio, which seems a fitting character for the actor’s personality quirks. However, it is much too early to tell. Details as we get them.

I’ve been wanting Bruce as Kraven the Hunter since the first Spiderman. Base it on the Ultimate Kraven where he has the syndicated reality television series where he hunts big game. Have him come in to hunt down the Lizard that has been terrorizing New York. Parker who has had a few run ins with the Lizard figures out the Lizard is Connors and helps him escape from Kraven’s capture. Then Kraven changes his focus and starts to hunt Spiderman for causing his to failure in the capture of the Lizard on his television series.
Kraven’s too dark for Bruce, methinks. Mysterio fits his goofy sensibilities.
I would have to agree. Bruce is way to goofy to take on a real role. That is my 2 cents.
