Academy Award® winners Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, Richard Dreyfuss and Ernest Borgnine joined Bruce Willis (Sin City), Mary-Louis Parker (“Weeds”), Brian Cox (Rushmore) and Academy Award® nominee John Malkovich in Toronto as they began production of the big-screen adaptation Red based on the graphic novel of the same name by Warren Ellis. Its hard to hear about a graphic novel adaptation starring Willis along side a lot of A list actors and not think of Frank Miller’s Sin City — alas, the City casts a large shadow. Rumors of a City sequel make this an especially interesting project for Willis to take on. I hope that Red finds a unique onscreen style and feel to stand out in whats become a rather big graphic novel crowd. Production moves to New Orleans before wrapping in late March. “Red” is the story of Frank Moses (Willis), a former black-ops CIA agent, who is now living a quiet life. That is, until the day a hi-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him. With his identity compromised and the life of the woman he cares for, Sarah (Parker), endangered, Frank reassembles his old team (Freeman, Malkovich and Mirren) in a last ditch effort to survive.
Directed by Robert Schwentke (“The Time Traveler’s Wife,” “Flightplan”) from a screenplay by Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber (“Whiteout”), the film is produced by di Bonaventura Pictures’ Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian (“Salt,” “Transformers,” “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”). Executive producers are Jake Myers (“Shanghai,” “Hollywoodland”) and Gregory Noveck (“Jonah Hex”). Di Bonaventura Pictures’ production executive David Ready serves as co-producer.
“Red” reunites director Schwentke with director of photography Florian Ballhaus (“Marley & Me,” “The Devil Wears Prada”) and Oscar-winning film editor Thom Noble (“Witness,” “Thelma & Louise”) who collaborated with Schwentke on “The Time Traveler’s Wife” and “Flightplan.” Additionally, “Red” production designer Alec Hammond (“Donnie Darko”) and costume designer Susan Lyall (“Rachel Getting Married”) lent their talents to Schwentke’s “Flightplan” as well.

“Red” will film in and around the Toronto metropolitan area for nine weeks before moving on to the road and ending in New Orleans in late March for the final two weeks of principal photography. The film is scheduled for worldwide release on October 22, 2010.
Was in New Orleans on monday and they were filming a scene where Bruce was shooting as he walked to camera. We must of gotten there just as they started shooting. they told everyone that was hanging around that they would be doing the same shot over and over (about 10 secounds worth) Well we went for a walk and about and hour later we could still here the shooting. As we were sitting there people walking around were just like “oh, shots fired” and just kept walking like it was an everyday thing. Now these seemed like people who didn’t know that 2 blocks over they were filming a movie. I must say, I like the country more than the city and this is one reason why.
Can’t wait for the movie, plot and actor sounds very interesting mix.
I spent some time in ‘Na-lins’ for the Endymion Parade and after stepping off the ferry the day before,
I looked down from atop the earthen levee and watched as a resident was digging into the base
of the levee that was at the rear of the house he perhaps was residing in. He’d dug about 10 feet into the
base and was shoveling out really wet gooey muck and putting it on the back lawn. Some people who came
over on the ferry yelled down to him that he was currently below water level and he just looked up at them
and flipped them off! They just laughed in amazement. This was back in 1991, well before Katrina, so those
who witnessed that arrogance, just shrugged their shoulders and moved on to tour a dryer part of the city.
I recall eating and drinking beer at an establishment called the Crescent City Brewery. My friends tell me I had
a good time! The next evening, we marched on the route with our pipe band and then through the superdome.
Afterward, we fell out into the city, partying with another pipe band, the Chicago Police pipe band at a bar
off of Bourbon Street. The scene in downtown Nalins while watching RED let me realize how much of the
Crescent City has vanished! It was much more worn down and historically prettier than the scene in the movie.
I really enjoyed this movie in the theater, and at home on DVD.
Bruce has done it again. I hope there is another. RED 2! As Helen says, Frank is gooy, also yummy. Bruce and Mary-Louise are fabolius together.
Mrgan Freeman is 80? well he needs someone to drive him now LOL.
Ernest Borgnine Is great too. He should of had a bigger part. Keep up the acting Ernest. I loved you in “A Grandpa For Christmas.
John does it again, just like “In The Line of Fire. He is fantastic. Yes, there is something worng with his Head Morgan.
Richard and Brian were great too, but why did Richard have to be a bad guy?
