With his newest bit of fantasy, Alice in Wonderland, only days away from release, Tim Burton is already lining up some more collaborative work. This time he’s re-teaming with Timur Bekmambetov, director of Wanted and his co-producer for Shane Acker’s animated apocalypse pic 9.
The focus of their efforts? Adapting the latest novel from author Seth Grahame-Smith, responsible for the incomparable Pride and Prejudice with Zombies. However, it’s the specific title of this one that has me most interested; Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
It sort of makes sense. Lincoln always looked like a dodgy type ( I think it was the beard) and how much do we really know about his private life? Sure he believed all men were created equal, but vampires aren’t men are they? They seem like a feasible threat to liberty, so I can get behind the 16th president going all Buffy on them.
I’ve recently finished Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters(great fun) so I’m gonna try and procure a copy of this one soon and get a review of it up. Until then, I look forward to seeing the casting list for this. You don’t really think Depp will be Lincoln do you? I’m sort of pulling for Lance Henrickson. Ok, not really.
Has anyone out there got a peek at the book or have suggestions on what Lincoln’s battle against the bloodsuckers should look like? I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we get some time travel elements too and Ben Franklin and Teddy Roosevelt show up as freelance werewolf killers trying to help Abe defeat uber-vamp George Washington. I know, I know, it’s silly. Franklin wasn’t even president.

With his pronounced preference for quirky roles, Depp would fit well into a movie like this. But I can’t see him playing Lincoln- he’s too short, and his face lacks the necessary craiginess.
Can I see him in the role of helpful-Vampire Henry? Most definitely YES!
