New ‘Nine’ Trailer Explodes On Stage

While I’m as excited for Rob Marshall’s Nine as any other film on the horizon (and I’ll give you one reason for that: Daniel Day-Lewis), the new trailer that has popped up online won’t sell anyone on the film unless they’re already aware of what it is.

Nine is director Rob Marshall’s (Chicago) attempt at delivering a musical inspired by Fellini’s film 8 1/2. /Film’s press coverage for the film gives a pretty succinct explanation of what we have in store:

“The musical tells the story of world famous film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) as he prepares his latest picture and balances the numerous women in his life including his wife (Marion Cotillard), a producer, a mistress (Penelope Cruz), a film star muse (Nicole Kidman), an American fashion journalist (Kate Hudson), the whore from his youth (Fergie), his confidant and costume designer (Judi Dench), and his deceased mother (Sophia Loren).”

I’m wondering if Judi Dench will get her own sexy solo, and if Fergie is pleased with that brief assessment of her role.

With that plot description in mind, check out the trailer below. It’s certainly a good looking film, and will be released on Christmas Day.

First Kick-Ass Trailer Bursts Onto the Scene

There was an immensely positive buzz going on about Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic Kick-Ass at San Diego Comic Con this year. Some who saw footage from the film are saying it is the most phenomenal comic book movie of all time, which is high praise indeed.

I don’t quite get that from this trailer, but I see the potential. I think the film will obviously venture into gritty territory that this green-band trailer can’t explore, so I’m definitely going to withhold judgment until I can see the final product.

That said, this movie has a great young cast: Chloe Moretz (from 500 Days of Summer), Aaron Johnson from the upcoming Nowhere Boy, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse from Superbad.

Clash of the Titans Trailer Rocks Out

The first trailer for Clash of the Titans, directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk) has arrived on the scene. And boy is it engineered for a post-MTV generation. This looks like a CGI-fest through and through, and its flashy editing is all bulked up by the rock soundtrack its paired with.

In other words: this looks nothing like the original film. That’s not to say it will be bad though — all I want out of the film is a solid little bit of fun action, and I know that Sam Worthington can deliver. There’s also a brief glimpse or two at Liam Neeson’s Zeus, amongst the giant scorpions and stuff.

New ‘Brothers’ Trailer Online!

Is it wrong that the first thought that popped into my mind after viewing the trailer for Jim Sheridan’s new film Brothers was “I’m so glad somebody finally decided to capitalize on the physical similarity between Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire!”?

The film, which will be released on December 4, centers around the conflict between two brothers over one woman (Natalie Portman) after one thought to be dead overseas returns home. The trailer starts out as sappy melodrama and then shifts into something over the top and maybe a little absurd.

‘Prince of Persia’ Trailer – With Commentary!

We’ve all grown accustomed to being able to learn more about the behind-the-scenes details concerning movies, thanks to the ever so wonderful ‘Commentary’ feature on most DVDs.

What we less commonly see is movie trailers with commentary.

IGN is changing this, though, with a new feature called “Rewind Theater.” With this feature, recent movie trailers are watched, with running commentary.

Even cooler than just commenting on the trailer, IGN rewinds, pauses, and puts clips in slo-mo as they do their commentary. This way, the viewer’s attention is brought to details that may otherwise go unnoticed.

In the following video, IGN takes the trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time to Rewind Theater, accompanied by the creator of the Prince of Persia videogame, Jordan Mechner.

The movie doesn’t come out for another 6 months, but to get a glimpse of what’s to come, and to learn a bit about the movie, check out the video below.

Uwe Boll’s “Storm” Looks … Good?

The only man in Hollywood busier than Ridley Scott must be Uwe Boll, who has had a videogame-to-film adaptation in theaters or on DVD every twelve minutes since House of the Dead. But word on the streets from Fantastic Fest was that his latest, Rampage, was actually quite good (and not based on any previously existing properties).

Now comes the trailer for his next, a little moody film called Storm, or Final Storm, written by Tim McGregor. The film stars Dumb and Dumber’s Lauren Holly and a back-from-the-abyss Luke Perry, and describes itself via this lengthy (and spoiler-heavy) synopsis:

“Biblical rain, dying animals and a blood red moon. Clearly, all is not well on the quiet farm in the countryside where Tom makes a living with his wife Gillian and their young son Graham. Before the cable and power goes out, glimpses of weather related catastrophes on a global scale are hinted upon. Amidst these eerie signs, a soft spoken man named Silas stumbles onto their property, sick and cold. Even more disconcerting is how quiet Tom notices everything is… neighbors, cars, birds, crickets, all are nowhere to be seen nor heard.

According to Silas it’s not so much as the beginning of the end, but in fact the end itself, and they’ve been left behind. As Tom goes about things in denial, believing that the flooding rains have simply evacuated the town, he shuts out those closest to him, allowing Silas, perhaps the only other man left alive, to grow closer to the emotionally starved Gillian and Graham. But the unsettling evidence cannot be ignored and Tom struggles with the horrifying truth: maybe it is the apocalypse. The rapture. The end of days. And they’re all that is left of humanity.

As Silas slowly reveals his true colors with his murderous past, and lust for Gillian, the tension between the men builds until an explosive showdown occurs, with Tom defending his family, and fighting for their survival, and perhaps the survival of all mankind.”

It doesn’t look great, but I’d argue it looks as interesting as the significantly higher budget Crazies trailer we saw recently.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Trailer

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is definitely aiming to recapture his Pirates of the Caribbean mojo with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, if this trailer is any indication. From the humor on display to the cinematography, this thing wishes so badly it had Johnny Depp in its clutches.

However, it gets Jake Gyllenhaal instead. Which isn’t inherently a bad thing, but he seems woefully out of place here (and way too bulky to play the fast and deadly Prince). His accent is horrible. With a double dose of this and Sir Ben Kingsley, this might be unbearable.

However, I have hope — with a little decently shot action, any film of this caliber can be redeemed. Prince of Persia is directed by Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’s Mike Newell, and is slated to be released on May 28 of next year.

How to Train Your Dragon Trailer

Want to know How to Train Your Dragon? Well know you can get to know the film a little better with the new trailer for the film that has been released today. It looks like it’s pretty much par for the course from Dreamworks Animation: entertaining and ultimately fluffier and less heartfelt than Pixar’s output. Hopefully we have something in the Kung-Fu Panda realm of work.

How to Train Your Dragon is written and directed by Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders (Lilo & Stitch) from a story by Cressida Cowell, and features the voices of Gerard Butler, Jay Baruchel (who I believe narrates the trailer), Craig Ferguson, Jonah Hill, and McLovin himself, Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

Check the trailer out below! The film is due on March 26, 2010 from Paramount Pictures.
