Leonardo DiCaprio’s a busy actor in some very high profile films — Scorcese’s upcoming Shutter Island, Nolan’s Inception, and Scott’s Brave New World — so you think he’d be willing to take it easy for the time being. However, how could you resist a role like Travis McGee, a “non-conformist, boat bum, knight in slightly tarnished armor — as he sets out on a wild journey through the wreckage of a woman’s soul?”
McGee is the main character in Leonardo’s upcoming vehicle The Deep Blue Goodbye, based on a pulpy 1964 detective novel by John D. MacDonald. The book began a series that lasted for 21 entries. While no director has been chosen for the project, the novel has been adapted for screen by Dana Stevens (City of Angels, For Love of the Game).
This sounds like a cool throwback film that DiCaprio would be well-suited for. Hopefully they can line up a good director sooner rather than later. Keep your eyes peeled at AtomicPopcorn.net for more updates!
