No, that's not Auto from 'Wall-E'
The bastardization of my childhood memories continue. Disney will rehash its family sci-fi adventure film, Flight Of The Navigator, and has attached Brad Copeland (Wild Hogs) to pen the new rehash and grits.
No word if the new Navigator will merely modernize the tale or boldly re-imagine it, but one thing is certain. It shall be watched by a whole new generation who has never even heard of the original. Think Escape to Witch Mountain.
The 1986 original centered on a kid who was abducted by aliens in 1978. When he returns eight years later, he hasn’t aged and possesses vast knowledge of the universe yet doesn’t recall what has happened. NASA scientists discover a link between him and a spacecraft that recently crash-landed on Earth.
Flight Of The Navigator earned just $17 million during its initial release at the U.S. box office, but later found success in VHS family libraries across the country. Specifically mine along with SpaceCamp.

I’ve know about this plan for a while now and I’m disheartened to say the least. I will admit that Race to Witch Mountain went better than I thought it would and can only hope that Flight of the Navigator 2: Remake Boogaloo will do the same. I mean, Pee Wee Herman’s still alive so he return as the voice of the space ship (originally credited under ‘Paul Mall’) … though I really don’t want Sarah Jessica Parker coming back, no matter that her inclusion in the original is still her best role to date.
