The 17 Again and High School Musical star Zac Efron has his sights set on the live action version of Johnny Quest, set to be playing the title character. This upcoming flick, centered around the Hanna-Barbera creation from the mid 1960s, is not the first one of the famed creator’s library of animated classics to be adapted to live action. From The Flinstones to Scooby Doo, it seemed merely a matter of time until the studios decided to breathe life into this sci-fi adventure (thanks to Warner Bros).
Johnny Quest is a young adventurer who joins his father, Dr. Benton Quest, along with his brother Hadji, Race Bannon and Johnny’s pet dog Bandit through journeys all around the world.
Also rumored to be joining Efron in the role of Race Bannon is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Race to Witch Mountain), which in this reporter’s opinion would be a pretty sweet choice. Director Andy Fickman would then be reuniting once again with Dwayne, working with him previously in The Game Plan and Race to Witch Mountain. Penning the script is Dan Mazeau who also is writing the upcoming Marvel comic book adaptation The Flash. This film, as well as what seems to be many nowadays, is set for a 2010 release date.
