Either that or everyone wants a little piece of the Efron revenue. The High School Musical star Zac Efron’s latest film, 17 Again, shot up fast during the weekend. Wrapping its small oily arms around first place, the Warner Bros film had no problem luring young women/girls in to check out their movie. Following the life of a man who after taking a chance and throwing away his dreams to be with the love of his life, is an adult and completely down on his luck, wishing to go back to high school to relive the glory days. He ends up getting his wish but it turns out to be a little more than what he imagined. Already wrangling in most of it’s budget, this little flick is obviously making itself some profit.
Quick on its tail is the crime thriller State of Play, starring Russell Crowe, Racheal McAdams and Ben Affleck among others. Focusing on a group of reporters investigating the latest story of a congressman’s mistress that was murdered, Kevin Macdonald’s (The Last King of Scotland) latest on screen project jumped in the second place slot. Within third is the Disney girls’ favorite double life leader in Hannah Montana: The Movie, already making well past it’s own budget of $35 Million, enough to keep Mickey Mouse happy.
The last but not least among the weekend openers is the Jason Statham electrically functioning Crank: High Voltage which slowly but surely make its budget back, thanks to people who’ve seen the first film and absolutely loved it (like me). Among the selection of movies that are on the cusp of earning their entire budget back, Monsters Vs. Aliens is more or less around twelve million away from doing so. Then again, that won’t be too hard for the Dreamworks animated feature due to the great word of mouth it’s received during these past weeks. For the entire top ten box office intake, take a look below:

This week will be even more eventful than the last, being the last set of movies before the unofficial start to the summer season in May. On the list is Disney Nature’s release of Earth on Wednesday following along with the Friday releases of Dreamwork Picture’s The Soloist and Rogue Picture’s Fighting.
