Everyone Watched the Watchmen

Everyone is watching Watchmen
Although Watchmen is an adult-orientated comic book adaptation about a masked vigilante called Rorschach who delves into the mysterious murder of Edward Blake, it still managed to rake in $55.7 million in the box office. Opening up to a rivaling record amount of sold out IMAX theatres next to The Dark Knight, it was purely predictable that this blue behemoth would reign over for the weekend. Despite the hefty running time (2 hours 45 minutes), there were still a great amount of movie goers and fans of the comic alike making their way to see it on the big screen.
Regarding its total, it ranks only third within the spectrum of heavy money making movies for the month of March, with Ice Age: The Meltdown in second and Snyder’s own 300 still on the top spot. Even though Watchmen in a sense underperformed (raking in $83.2 million combined with overseas tally), one of the things that factored into it was the long running time. Theatres that could only play the movie on one or two screens would have huge gaps of time in between each showtime, which meant lesser showtimes than would be a normal widely released movie. The general movie audience though showed that they were willing to sit through the film and pushed it up to the top.
Everything else remained steady except for the Jonas Brothers. Fangirls let their favorite thick eyebrowed band slip down the ranks as it goes from the number 2 spot to number 9. Below is the weekend tally.
