Fast & Furious Zooms Past Adventureland

The tricked out cars took over the box office this past weekend, breezing past the competition to not only garner the number one spot but to be the highest grossing opener for the entire year so far. Fast & Furious, the fourth installation of the action orientated franchise, re-teams Vin Diesel (Dominic) and Paul Walker (Brian) who collaborate once again despite their differences to bring down a drug lord who killed a member of Dominic’s team. With the heavy marketing  that took place prior to the release, the audiences showed at the end that they craved more cars than they did monsters or amusement parks.

Moving onto other recent releases, the Greg Mottola (Superbad) helmed Adventureland graced its way into theatres nationwide. Starring Jesse Eisenberg as a recent college grad who takes on a job at an amusement park that strangely enough helps him better prepare for the real world, the film managed fairly well among the top ten.

Monsters Vs Aliens continues to reel in more family orientated audiences who decided to skip the cars, sex and action packed first place behemoth. The voice star powered Paramount/Dreamworks animated feature will still manage to do well this reporter thinks before the early summer season starts in May. Among the others in the mix, Sunshine Cleaning and Taken still are catching the attention of audience members as their numbers begin to dwindle away. Box office numbers are shown below.
