David Fincher’s adaption of Ben Mezrich’s non-fiction work The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, a Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal may be an indication, along with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, that the talented director no longer wants to center his career around murderers and creeps. That is, unless the story of Facebook founders Eduardo Saverin and Mark Zuckerberg has some dark turns I didn’t expect.
The website End of Show is reporting that Columbia Pictures has finally greenlit Fincher’s project, which has a budget of $47 million and a script by the talented Aaron Sorkin. The film will start rolling in October of this year, leaving not much time for pre-production.
I’m hoping this is a Burn After Reading-esque turn for Fincher, if Benjamin Button were his No Country for Old Men. It’s good to see him tackle some material that is less obviously aligned with his morose tastes, and I’m sure he’s quite capable of delivering an intriguing story behind one of the world’s most prominent social networks.
