Against Wedeck’s orders, Mark and Demetri head to Hong Kong to find the woman who called Demetri about his murder. An FBI agent stops them when they arrive but still, against orders to return, they stay to search.
Back in L.A. Lloyd and Simon hold a news conference to tell the world they are responsible for the blackouts due to their experiment. Lloyd attempts to say he will take responsibility but Simon takes the mic and says it was all unforeseeable. As the press goes crazy, a woman grabs the gun of a guard, opening fire on Simon and Lloyd who escape behind the stage.
In Hong Kong, Mark and Demetri start to narrow down an area to search for the woman.
In his office, Wedeck gets a call and Simon arrives, telling Wedeck that he doesn’t believe they were responsible for the blackouts after all. He asks for access to the Mosaic case in order to find the real cause of the blackouts. Wedeck tells him he will show Simon a small portion and if they make progress, perhaps he can see more.
In Hong Kong Demetri and Mark visit a Persian restaurant and ask the owner if he recognizes the voice from the phone call. He claims to not know who she is but Mark and Demetri can tell he is lying to them when he answers. Mark threatens him and finally gets a name from the man as well as information about the woman’s whereabouts.
In L.A. Simon takes a look at the satellite photos from Somalia. He explains that the large pillars in the photos are his recent creation, but thinks the photo isn’t real because he hasn’t built them yet. When they tell him the photos are real and over a decade old, Simon is speechless. He claims nobody else could have created the pillars. They tell Simon about suspect zero and their sketch of him. Simon says he will do whatever he can to help find him.
At the hospital, Lloyd tries to get his son transferred to a different hospital due to safety risks.
Meanwhile, at a friend’s memorial service Demetri’s fiancee, Zoey, suddenly makes a grim realization when she sees a white rose at the service that is similar to the one in her flash forward. What she saw in her flash forward was Demetri’s funeral, not their wedding.
In Hong Kong, Demetri and Mark finally find the mystery woman. She tells Demetri he will be shot three times at close range and that his killer is sitting at the table. Looking directly at Mark, she then tells him that Mark will be Demetri’s killer. When Mark asks how she knows, she recites “A561984″ – the serial number of Mark’s gun, used to kill Demetri.
She tells them to leave but clearly the two are not satisfied and they attempt to abduct her from the restaurant with weapons drawn. They are quickly surrounded by guards and the police, however, and the FBI agent from the airport steps from a nearby vehicle. He tells Mark to let the woman go. When he does, the FBI agent arrests both Mark and Demetri and lets the woman go.
Back in L.A. Lloyd and Olivia talk about the news conference he held earlier in the day.
The FBI agent turns out to be a CIA agent who takes Mark and Demetri back to the airport. Wedeck calls Mark and tells him he is watching the security tapes from the restaurant, and relieves Mark of his duties.
We then see a window facing the Hong Kong skyline that is covered in scraps of paper. Behind it is the woman from the restaurant. She is talking to a man who is in the room with her, telling him that she can no longer protect him because the FBI is getting close. When the camera pans around, we see that it is none other than suspect zero, who claims he will find someone who can help protect him.
In L.A. Zoey goes to Demetri’s parents home to ask her about her flash forward. She asks why the woman didn’t tell her she knew it was a funeral, seeing as his mother saw the same thing Zoey did. She says she wouldn’t tell her because then it might make it more real. Zoey tells her they will find a way to change the future.
In the airport terminal Mark and Demetri wait for their flight home. Demetri tries to apologize to Mark for the situation but Mark tells him not to worry about it, that they will still find a way to keep him from being murdered and he would never shoot Demetri.
As Lloyd prepares to transfer his son to another hospital, they load him into an ambulance. Olivia tells Dillon goodbye and then Lloyd hugs her for all the help she has given him. When the men load Dillon into the ambulance, the boy starts to panic. When Olivia calls for security, the ambulance drivers shoot and kill the guard, then order Lloyd into the ambulance and speed away.
This closes the final episode of Flash Forward for 2009. The show will return with a plethora of other surprises, twists and turns in March, 2010.
