Ghost in the Shell Goes Live Action and 3D

ghost_in_the_shell-dented-tachikomaThe ultra-popular Japanese manga property Ghost in the Shell, which centers around a futuristic cyberpunk counter-terrorist organization, will soon be headed to the big screen. Writer Laeta Kalogridis, who is about to blow up huge with Shutter Island, Knight & Day, and Battle Angel, will handle the scripting duties for the film.

Kalogridis took over the position after writer Jamie Moss (Street Kings) left the project.

Dreamworks along with uber-producer Avi Arad are designing the film — which was previously brought to life as an anime in 1995 — to be a live-action film for 3D.

The production design of this film is sure to be stunning, from a brief exploration of a Google image search for Ghost in the Shell. It’s certainly a property that lends itself to the 3D aesthetic, so I’m going to have to check out the original film to see what all the fuss is about. Between Battle Angel and this film, Kalogridis has her work cut out for her.
