Golden Compass – First Five Minutes

The latest in a lo(oooooooo)ng live of fantasy kids movies comes out this week. If you haven’t gathered from the title of this post it’s called “The Golden Compass”. Funny how that works eh?

The cool thing about this movie is that it stars the latest and greatest James Bond, Daniel Craig. It also features Nicole Kidman, looking perhaps the best I’ve ever seen her, and armor-clad polar bears. The bad thing about the movie is that it might make you and your children hate God (at least if various religious groups and the author of the books are to be believed). But hey, ya gotta take the good with the bad right?

If you are a clever title-figure-outer you’ve probably also guessed that the first five minutes of the movie are online and I am going to tell you how to see it. I knew you were smarter than you look. Go check it out right here:

Golden Compass – first five

I must say that I am not at all impressed with the production values on this. It’s rather darkly lit and the polar bear looks more like a golden retriever. It is pretty terrifying though and a brave departure from the Bond franchise for Mr. Craig.

See? I told you so. Was I right or what?

***EDIT***

I’ve been hornswaggled! That was not The Golden Compass at all. I’m not sure what that was, but the camera man should be ashamed of himself.

You can check out the REAL first five minutes right here:

Good luck with it. I’ve tried to watch it a few times and can’t get more than halfway through before it freezes up on me.

Yes. Nicole Kidman looks fabulous. Not wild about that photo of Mr. Craig, but well…I’ve got that James Bond dvd around here somewhere…and really, like I need a children’s movie to make me hate God lately? Please.
