Raja Gosnell, director of films such as Beverly Hills Chihuahua and Scooby Doo, is setting himself up to hang out with some blue men as he takes on the directing duties of the Smurfs. The new live action/animated hybrid feature under the good people of Sony Animated and Columbia Pictures will include everyone’s tiny heroes within the realms of the real world.
Setting himself down as producer is Jordan Kerner with writers David N. Weiss and David Stern (Shrek 2) scribbling up the script. This would not be the first time a live action/animated feature tramples it up onto the big screen, with such feature examples like Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Looney Tunes Back In Action to name a few. Smurfs will be released in regular theaters and presented in 3D on December 17, 2010.
