Marc Guggenheim recently told SCI FI Wire that he has completed the first draft for the movie adaptation of everyone’s favorite ring-slinger, Green Lantern. “In fact, I’m … delivering another draft today,” Guggenheim said on Friday. “So it continues to move forward.”

Looking for a Silver Age feel, the film will revolve around Earth’s emerald guardian, Hal Jordan. Focusing on his origin and how he became a member of the Green Lantern Corps., Guggenheim isn’t looking for invention or to take Jordan into a completely different direction and away from his source material, which is something the Fanboy Nation was worried about. “You know I really can’t [say],” he said. “I’ve sworn a blood oath of secrecy in relation to the project. But, you know, the thing I can tell you is that it is a very loving and respectful approach.”

Guggenheim goes on: “The goal here is to do the best cinematic representation of the Green Lantern character. You know, there’s no desire on anyone’s part to completely change the character and just call this other character Green Lantern and try to … draft off the name recognition. This is all about ‘How do we bring the best version of this character to the silver screen?’”

What about all the rumors flying around about The Hangover’s Bradley Cooper or Star Trek’s Chris Pine putting on the ring? “They’re all false,” he said. “I mean, they’re all false insofar as we haven’t chosen anyone yet. They’re still in the negotiations, you know? There’s a lot of names being talked about, and there’s a lot of people being met, and a lot of … actors reading the script. But if you read online [that] Pauly Shore’s been cast as Hal Jordan, I can guarantee you we have not cast anyone. It remains a lot of fun. It’s such a great character, it’s been a really great project so far.”
