Wolverines!!!!
Chris Hemsworth and his deal with Beelzebub has apparently paid off. Besides his casting in Marvel Studio’s much anticipated comic book adaptation Thor, Hemsworth, whose previous credits include starring in the popular Aussie TV show, Home and Away, and playing Captain Kirk’s pa in Star Trek, will also play Jed in MGM’s remake of the 1984 classic, Red Dawn.
In the role previously played by Patrick Swayze, who led a band of high school students against an invasion of Soviet forces in Colorado, Hemsworth will play a Marine back from Iraq who leads an ethnically diverse squad of teens (an Asian-American, an African-American and a bunch of white folks. Maybe a Latino in a wheelchair) against an invasion of Chinese soldiers with the help of those pesky Russians. Why? Oil.
The original Red Dawn from controversial director John Milius (who co-wrote Dirty Harry and Apocalypse Now) was the first to be branded with a PG-13 rating, and was decried for a then-shocking 134 acts of violence per hour, or 2.23 per minute. Whew! The retread will be directed by cinematographer-turned-director Dan Bradley. The project currently has a September 2010 release.
