Iron Man 2 Panel Coverage, Yeah!

3:57- I’m ready for this panel to go, music is already starting to blast out of the speakers and everyone is horribly anxious. AC/DC is always great to listen to.

3:58-People are all over the floor right now, blocking the pathway and nobody cares. I think we’ve reached past capacity but nobody cares.

3:59- I hope they get their patooties out really soon, I’d hate for this panel out of all panels to start up late along with many many upset/anxious fans.

4:00- Everyone is up at this point (almost) and I wonder who exactly will show up other than the awesome Downey Jr and Farveau.

4:02- The suspense is killing some people next to me, not literally of course.

4:03- They’re starting to put the name tags up. Kevin Feige, Jon Farveau, Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson and Sam Rockwell.

IMG_07634:04/06-  Here it goes, and they are going to finish cramming us the hell in or else the fire marshal won’t let us start the panel. Everyone hurries up to finish getting seats so this could get started.

4:07- Scolding us about not putting up anything on there. Somebody never listens, just like the first Iron Man footage at 07.

4:08- Everyone wants the moderator from Access Hollywood to shutup and let out them all.

4:09- Kevin Feige walks out, they’re doing questions with him first. Goes off about keeping within the same terms like the first time. Footage time that includes Stark in Iron Man uniform talking to Nick Fury, Black Widow kicking ass, Don Cheadle dawning the War Machine outfit and blowing up everything to smithereens.  Along with it is Stark being interrogated by the senator about trying to stop being Iron Man, and Rhodes talking to the character Justin about what kind of weapons that would be needed in order to assemble War Machine. (This will be elaborated on as soon as possible).

4:19- “Your the people we wanted to show this off to first, thank you so much for all of your support.”  Farveau is a Comic-Con god.

IMG_07694:20-  Question: What’s it like playing Tony Stark the second time around? “I never had it so good, such a great role and just out of the opprotunity that Feige and Farveau gave me. I’m so thrilled to sit next to the talent and that we nailed it the first time, it proves to us that other people were interested to coming onboard.” Robert Downey Jr.

4:21- Question: Whats it like being Rhodes? “I’ve never worked on a movie with this kind of scope, didn’t know what to expect and I really heavily relied on Kevin (Feige), Robert (Downey Jr) and Jon (Farveau) who figured out the right ones, how to play this guy. They were really good, gave me really good guidance. It was a really great experience and you guys saw it (the footage) before we even saw it. Roll it again!” Of course, they aren’t going to disobey Don Cheadle so they roll the footage once again.

4:22- Question: What’s it like wearing the War Machine outfit? “Its, its heavy!”

4:23- Question: What did you do in order to get the role and what did you do to train? “Wow, my goodness, well deep knee bends and some lunges. That came out the wrong way!” (People definitely laughed and whistled) “I didn’t really have a formal audition, met with Jon and Kevin a year before, tried to convince them.” Johansson

“Her audition is her body of work.” Downey Jr on Johansson

4:23- “She showed up and her hair was red and I was like wow, you really want the part don’t you? She dyed her hair before she had the part. (After she did) she got in shape, did the stunts, worked her tail off with the stunt guys. Most of the stuff that she does in the movie she did it herself.” Jon Farveau on Johansson

4:24- (Huge applause and cheers for Rockwell) Question: How awesome is it to be here in Hall H? “Its amazing, this is phenomenal and the trailer was phenomenal, it blew my mind. I’m really happy  to be here.”

IMG_07574:25- (Question and Answer starts for the audience) Question: You guys are all freakin amazing, everything in this movie is going to collide to make this orgasmic. For Farveau, you said there’s going ot be an Avenger movie, are you going to be attached to it? “I’ve been looking at the prep work and artwork for Avengers and I’m going to be involved in some capacity for it, especially since it doesn’t shoot until after Iron Man 2 is done.”

4:26- Question: Guy starts going off about being an intern back when Iron Man first came out and doing all sorts of observations on minor costume changes. Farveau jokingly puts him in his place.

4:27- Question: How was it going head to head with (Mickey) Rourke? “I honestly barely even know what to say, I thought I was eccentric. But no, he is something else and he wanted me to send his sicnere regrets but he couldn’t come in and wanted to particpate with you folks. Actually he has most of his onscreen time with Justin Hammer (Rockwell) so I’ll past that over to Mr. Rockwell.

“I love Mickey, Mickey’s fabulous, we had a great time together. No, Mickey’s a consummate actor, very professional and we smoked  a couple of cigs together.”

4:28- Talks about how they combined Whiplash with Ivan Venko, and how in the movie the Whiplash suit is his first attempt at technology. “When I told him that the character just got out of a Russian prison, the next thing I heard he was in a Russian prison and I had to learn from TMZ.” Farveau

“Not from a crime or anything.” Downey Jr

4:29- Question: What are some of the main themes of this movie and how do they apply to the characters? “One thing that we already talked about is that mostly through Robert’s character is that the idea of needing help, working with other people and that no man is an island, referring to that and dramatically playing on that throughout the film.” Don Cheadle

“There were a lot of pressure (Tony Stark) of staying as Iron Man and being Iron Man in the public eye. Are we following the Demon in the Bottle storyline…the stone that we established in the first film isn’t as dark but we did want to go into what the character would be dealing with over his pressure and maintaining his own identity who is a larger than life character who’s in fact saving the world. Its an exploration between Robert’s character and what happens to him.” Jon Farveau

4:31- Question: How was the training in the movie? Johansson goes off about how much she put her time and effort into doing as many of her own stunts as possible. Security is having a hard time keeping everyone in their seats still, I manage to stay hidden towards the front.

4:38- Guy gives support for Rockwell in Moon. Question: How much of your performance was informed by Terrance and how much was your own? Says that he makes the role his own and tries to get a little out of him (Howard) as well.

4:39- Question: How much influence from the source material, what impact did he have on this film?

4:40- The creator of Iron Man (in the comics) makes his way out of the front row to the stage with the others to answer the question. They used very heavy influence on him and the viewpoint of his creation. He’s incredibly proud of the first movie and says the second one will “knock your socks off”.

4:41- Last question (kind of) is really stupid and Downey Jr says “Your a smartass” while they get rid of the person.

4:42- Question: Don, what do you prefer to play more, the good guy in Iron Man 2 or the bad guy in Meteor Man? (laughs) “I don’t even know what that other movie is. I had an incredible experience in Iron Man 2 and I look forward to doing it again.”

Iron Man 2 comes out in theaters everywhere in Summer 2010.
