Let Me In, a completely unnecessary remake of the fantastic Let the Right One In directed by Cloverfield‘s Matt Reeves, finally has a cast in shape: Kodi Smit-McPhee, Chloe Moretz and Richard Jenkins.
Those may not be household names, but you’re likely familiar with them: McPhee will soon be seen as Viggo Mortenson’s son in The Road, and Chloe Moretz played Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s half-snot/half-wise little sister in (500) Days of Summer. Jenkins was recently seen in Burn After Reading and Step Brothers.
McPhee will play Oskar, Moretz will be the vampiric Eli, and Jenkins will be Eli’s caretaker, known as Hakan in the original book and film adaptation. It’s unknown whether the character names will be changed for the remake. While I’m sure this film will make money, I think it’s a terrible idea — there’s simply no way the tone and wonderful moments of the original film can be copied. Reeves better be aiming for something completely different or else I simply won’t be interested.
IMDb says the film will be released in January of 2010, but this is most likely impossible. I would expect it toward the middle-to-late period of next year. Updates on Let Me In as the film develops.
