New I Am Legend Movie Poster

Warner Bros has just released a new I Am Legend movie poster, pictured below.

The small text in the center reads:

“Is there anybody out there. Anybody please. You are not alone. My name is Robert Neville, I am broadcasting on all AM frequencies. I am a survivor living in New York City. I am living day by day, searching for others. I will be at the South Street Seas Port Every Day at midday when the sun is highest in the sky.” This is repeated until the text fades out. This is definitely an improvement over the previous poster, which has been displayed at the local theatre for some time now-

They’re both incredibly vague about what exactly the movie is about, though I think the new one definitely has captured the sense of isolation that is the main theme of the film.

I gotta say, I’m pretty excited about this movie. I’ve always been a fan of the book, and was actually surprised when I found out that it was written in 1954. The plot is strong enough that it has lasted over 50 years and not become stale. I’m not totally sure how pleased I am with the choice of Will Smith as Neville. However, as long as he doesn’t make any of the lame jokes/one-liners that Men in Black was rife with, we’ll be OK.

Official plot synopsis-Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable…and manmade. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City…and maybe the world. But he is not alone. He is surrounded by “the Infected” – victims of the plague who have mutated into carnivorous beings who can only exist in the dark and who will devour or infect anyone or anything in their path. For three years, Neville has spent his days scavenging for food and supplies and faithfully sending out radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. All the while, the Infected lurk in the shadows, watching Neville’s every move, waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind’s last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But his blood is also what The Infected hunt, and Neville knows he is outnumbered and quickly running out of time.

Also, if you haven’t seen the trailer yet, you can check it out here. Thank God these (hopefully) amazing movies will start coming out soon. We seem to be going through a bit of a movie slump right now.
