Marcus Nispel, director of such remakes like Friday the 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, adds another refurbished piece onto his growing resume. With the great confirming powers of Variety, its set in stone that Nispel will direct the new Conan the Barbarian movie right for Nu Image/Millenium Films. This recent announcement obviously debunks the possibilities of other directors attaching themselves onto the property, just like early rumors awhile back of Rush Hour series director Brett Ratner doing so. Nu Image/Millenium Films will co produce alongside Lionsgate.
Those producing will be Joe Gatta (Labor Pains), Avi Lerner (Righteous Kill) and Fredrick Malmberg (Mutant Chronicles). Filming will commence at the later half of this year. No word yet on who will fill the lion cloth of the barbarian originally played by actor-turned-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
