Paranormal Activity Going International

paranormal-activityAfter seeing a whirlwind of success in its first month domestically, Paranormal Activity is ready to see if it can garner the same attention abroad.

Since much of the buzz about the film was stirred up via the internet, an easily accessible medium for global audiences, international distributors are hoping to see similar box office earnings to what Paranormal Activity has brought in in the U.S.

Paranormal Activity will see its first international opening in the UK on Halloween night, with midnight screenings (like we had in the U.S.) only before seeing wide release in mid-November. After the UK opening, Paranormal Activity will then spread to Russia, Scandinavia, Germany, Spain, South Korea and Latin America, finally reaching Australia, France and Italy in December.

After being shown in front of an audience consisting of 300 teenagers and six rows of international distributors, Paranormal Activity was sold within 48 hours, with the international viewers feeling the film would likely be a hit in their countries regardless of what happened in the U.S.

Those distributors who had faith in the film from its outset have hardly been disappointed, and seem confident that Paranormal Activity’s numbers will continue internationally. In anticipation of the movie’s success, Russia, Spain, and several Asian countries have already licensed rights local-language remakes and sequels.

Director Oren Peli and producer Jason Blum will be embarking on a European and Asian publicity tour for Paranormal Activity as soon as Peli wraps work on his next film, Area 51.
