Nice insights, cheers. There’s another film coming out soon in the UK which looks quite similar to this, called Cocaine Cowboys. It’s about Miami, whereas American Gangster was about NY, and it’s a documentary on the drugs trade/industry and the real people behind it. I think they have a website at http://www.cocainecowboys.co.uk. It looks awesome. Anyway, cheers for the sneak preview. AG is good, but it’s far too slow burning to retain any real interest. Crowe was surprisingly adept in this role though!

I liked it, but I like “based in reality” films and think Russell Crowe is pretty brilliant (I even found things to like in A Good Year!). What is funny is that where I saw it in Boston, there were a bunch of teenagers in the bathroom after the film saying “Don’t you want to be a drug dealer?” After all the deaths and violence they just saw the nice house and cool clubbing.

Haha! I couldn’t agree with you more on so many different levels. Your comments about Cuba were spot on, and I totally agree with your analysis of Denzel and Russell–they did a good job portraying their characters, but what were they thinking when they took these roles? Where is the zeal–or the above par acting? This film was missing something…and it was more than an intermission for a restroom break!
