Ridley Scott Tackles Aliens Again

I’d love for one of my dream projects to eventually come to fruition. Whether it’s me directing one of my own scripts or the next RoboCop to Zack Snyder’s Metal Gear Solid or even Paul W.S. Anderson never touching a camera again, it’d be nice to see one of these things happen. Perhaps the second biggest (next to my own directorial debut) would be seeing James Cameron and Ridley Scott tag-team for a fifth Alien film. It could be perfect if you have both produce and Cameron scribes it while Scott works his magic as director. We could also negate those two “fan made” Alien films that are just special features in the Alien Quadrilogy box set. In fact, a Scott/Cameron Alien film is too perfect, and that’s why it won’t happen.

What will happen though is Ridley Scott will return to the franchise that all but launched his career. You may remember the announcement of the Alien prequel Fox wanted to with Scott just producing. Now Variety reports that Ridley will be directing the prequel in addition to producing it. The studio has also tapped Jon Spaihts to pen the film. Word on the street is that Spaihts’ pitch was so loved by Ridley that it scored him the gig. To all this I say…good. I wasn’t totally against an Alien prequel with Scott behind it, but with him now directing, it’s unlikely he’ll screw the pooch. The only thing that needs to be worried about now is if they’ll succumb to explaining where the Xenomorph’s came from. For now though, they have my faith.

But seriously, next time get James Cameron in on the fun!
