2008 can be said to be a year plagued by tragedy, disappointment and shame. Just like at the movies, the small screen in general didn’t exactly shine this year. Very few movies could even be considered watchable and many shows…

Saw IV Review

We have a guest review from a friend over at The Reviewer

After the mess up that was Saw 3, I was a little wary of Saw 4.  Saw was a new thing for me, I am not fond of the “torture porn” style movies coming out now, but Saw dealt with morality and had a new view on what I would consider horror.  It really is miles ahead of any other horror
that was coming out at the time.   Part 3 threw those structured rules out the window and I was very upset about it.  It took this high class thing (high class for horror) and cheapened it.  I figured Saw 4 would be just as bad or worse.  I am happy to say that is not the case.

Saw 4 seems to go back to what we all liked about the first movies. Rules, structure, and even in this madness a question of morality, and that people need to take responsibility for their own actions.  It does so with the usual over the top trap style scenes, which for some reason did not seem as bad (torture porn wise) as the last movie.  We also get some more back story, and things we are looking for about Jigsaw.  It was all very tight and clean.  It made sense, had good kills, nothing too over the top, good back story, and ended solidly.  I was very impressed with the new director not losing sight of what the original saw fans were looking for.  Most Saw fans will be happy with this sequel.

So it also comes with a little bit of sadness that I have to say that it might be time to pack it in.  While I felt the movie was a great success over part 3, the story, and what it has in it seems to be losing steam.
I think they saw this with 3, and tried to change it up.  The fans got upset so they went back to something more like 1 and 2.  This left me feeling happy, but also like I had seen it all before.  There is nothing new, and I don’t think there should be.  I think they need to end it cleanly, let go of the dollar signs in their eyes, and just stop.  I
know they are already working on 5 and 6 so these words are falling on deaf ears, but be wary horror fans, because I don’t think there is much left in the tank.

4 stars, but pushing a 3.

I am sure Gillman’s review will be up shortly, but due to family issues he has been unable to post up his take on Saw IV - I am sure it will be a great read !

ohh I loved this movie… The history is brilliant and envolving.. Can’t wait to Saw 5 and 6 to comes out…
Saw 4 is one of the most creepy movies I saw this year, but even the most horrible movies has some funny moments… I saw this movie where Scott Patterson and Tobin Bell talk about some funny moments they had while shooting horrific scenes.
