Sharp Develops Anti-Piracy Infared Weaponry

hal-9000-267x300There may finally be a solution to end the problem of illegal movie piracy, once and for all.

The National Institute of Informatics, located in Japan, recruited Sharp to develop a technology to ruin camcorder footage of films shot in theaters by placing large infrared lights behind screens. These lights will shine through the pores of a theater’s projection screen, not detectable by the human eye.

The camcorder, however, will only see a blinding flare of light that will ruin all captured footage.

This sounds like a perfectly utilizable method of ridding the world of movie piracy once and for all. What do you think?

While I know what they are trying to do. Cams (a video produced by a camcorder) are no longer needed with the amount of screeners leaked, the use of a telesync machine etc. This will stop very few copies hitting the net to be honest.
