href="http://www.atomicpopcorn.net/alice-in-wonderland-movie-review/" target="_blank">Alice in Wonderland. This will not be a review of the movie, but rather a look at the features of the disc containing Alice.

I would like to point out that the disc holds a whopping three DVDs. One is obviously the Blu-Ray disc itself. The other consist of the DVD and the digital copy. I myself have moved on from the DVDs in my house and only have a Blu-ray player but this would be a great option for those of you wanting a Blu-ray player soon but still have yet to make the jump.

Something that jumps out right away are the menus along with the soundtrack. The menus jump right out at you full of classic Tim Burton sketches along with concept art from the movie. The transfer is awe inspiring, clean and very much in the top 10 I have seen.

Below is a list of what to expect for extras, we will go into detail shortly.

Wonderland

finding Alice

The mad Ayer

The futterwacken

The red queen

Time lapse: sculpting the red queen

the white queen

Making Wonderland

scoring Wonderland

Effecting Wonderland

stunts of Wonderland

making the Proper Size

cakes of Wonderland

tea Party Props

There are a few sneak peaks into some upcoming movies. Sneak peaks for the upcoming Re-release of beauty and the beast on Blu-ray along with James and Giant Peach special edition on Blu-Ray.

With the above said make sure to read on about the details about the above special features.

Finding Alice: A behind the look at who Alice is and the world around Alice. Lots and lots of green screen behind the scenes along with clarity on who the character is. A great looking into a behind the scenes world of Burton’s head. Who is Alice? This is your guide to Burton’s thoughts and details behind who Alice really is.

The Mad Hatter: This feature is really a great look into how Depp dives into his character and also shows the work that can be put into a character in a movie. The look behind the mad hatter was actually draw almost identical by Burton and Depp when they were on separate coasts. Very crazy coincidence. They explore the hair, eyes, the dance, the it’s, the hats and more. Really an awesome look behind how he becomes mad.

The Futterwacken: The crazy dance that the mad hatter does at the end of the film. A crazy fluid, yet odd dance that plays a small part within the film, which comes alive in this special feature. Youtube dancers enter! A great way to be resourceful and really trick us all. This is a must watch!

The Red Queen: What a character to play. What a character to hate. What big head! The queen of hearts, err the red queen, is portrayed by Burton muse, Helena Bonham Carter. 3 to 4 hours of makeup, hair, lips and more include what we get to see. this feature shows us what it means to be the red queen, how she got there and how we see an enormous head.

Time Lapse of the Red Queen: It’s a very very fast time lapse showing us what it takes to make the red queen. A really awesome idea if you ask me. This was y daughters favorite part!

The White Queen: Besides being one of my favorite recent actresses, the white queen is a very fun character played splendidly by Anne Hathaway. A story of who she is and really yearns to be. The slightly off side of someone who is a such an iconic character. One of the better story’s of the characters of the film.

Scoring Wonderland: The sound of a film can make or break a film. Something that controls the fluidity of a film along with guiding its viewers along the way. Danny Elfman scored this beauty and explains how he gets there.

Effecting Wonderland: this is where it all happens. The majority of this film is CG and this feature goes into the backend ways that Wonderland comes to life is so many different ways.

Stunts of Wonderland: an inside look at the ideas behind the stunts, the way they go about making them, rehearsing them along with the steps of the actual stunt.

Making the Proper Size: size is a very large part of this film. from the red queen to the small Alice to the weird bodies of the red queen’s right hand man. This feature is something i have always wanted to understand.

Cakes of Wonderland: from the tea party to the eat me cake that Alice finds, there are cake props everywhere. What a way to make you hungry during the special features.

Tea Party Props: The tea party is not a very large part of the film but something that sticks out in a great way. This is how they went about making it the perfect tea party.

Overall the Alice in Wonderland Blu-ray release is one that should amaze you all. The colors, the sites and sounds all aim to please. The transfer is spot on and the audio track is amazing. Definitely run out and pick this one up.

Enjoy Alice in Wonderland!

The Complete First Season of GLEE on Blu-ray and DVD September 14

TV News

20th century fox

abc

blu ray

Community

DVD

fox

glee

Golden Globe

Modern Family

nbc

People's Choice Award

Screen Actors Guild Award
<guid

When we developed the Blu-ray and DVD, we wanted to give those fans something special because they’ve been so great to us. There’s everything from a sing-along karaoke, to a behind-the-scenes look at our Madonna episode, to a dance lesson from our amazing choreographers. However, you still have a chance to see the film on the big screen. In an interview with the LA Times, James Cameron revealed his plans for an Avatar re-release as well as a sequel.

First, Cameron said that Weta is working on an additional six minutes, which will be added to the movie for a theatrical re-release this August. He added:

“It’ll be interesting because it’ll be on DVD by then, but I think “Avatar” is kind of a unique category where people are enjoying the unique theatrical experience even though they may have seen it on the small screen. They want to have that immersive, transportive experience.”

He went on to compare the film to 2001: A Space Odyssey, which is a little pretentious, but I understand his point. The number of movies that could be successful during a second run in this economy is very low, but I think Avatar has a lot of potential, both from people that somehow missed the movie the first time around, as well as those of us who want to return to the experience again.

Cameron also discussed his ideas for Avatar 2: “Part of my focus in the second film is in creating a different environment – a different setting within Pandora. And I’m going to be focusing on the ocean on Pandora, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative, but it just won’t be a rain forest. I’m not saying we won’t see what we’ve already seen; we’ll see more of that as well.”

The director said that production should run much more smoothly the second time around, so we will be back on Pandora sometime in the near future. However, being a science fiction fan, I’m more excited to see more of the space setting that was established at the very beginning of Avatar. Well, Cameron stated that the third film will focus more on the Alpha Centauri AB System that includes Pandora.

In any case, I don’t see the need for an Avatar sequel. I’ve always believed that a movie should stand alone, unless the story calls for a continuation. However, I understand that a series is inevitable after such an enormous success and I trust Cameron will do it his way and make another breathtaking movie.

Star Wars and the Galaxy far far away coming to Blu-Ray!

Movie News

blu ray

empire strikes back

George Lucas

Lord of the Rings

return of the jedi

star wars
<guid

Blu-ray is such an awesome technology and really is now just gaining some legs with the release of LOTR. Recently IGN spoke to one of the Lucasfilm Directors, Steve Sansweet and he confirmed that the Star Wars films will soon be coming to Blu-ray. While this is not a surprise to most of us, someone inside the compound saying it is nice to hear.

“We have been at work for a couple of years working on—I won’t call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff—but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material. We’re finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before. Beyond all of those things that you know about… there are some real treasures.”

When will the set come out? Sansweet says, “We’re not ready to announce exactly when it’s coming out, but it won’t be in the too distant future.”

Steve Sansweet also spoke to IGN about plans to re-release the Star Wars films in 3D:

“George has publicly expressed an interest in doing Star Wars 3D. Right now there are a number of different technologies, there’s some criticism out there about some of the movies that have quickly changed to 3D, so you have to pick the right technology, you have to get it to a cost that makes sense, and you have to have the time of the director and producer — George — to actually go in there, because you can’t push a button and stuff goes in one end and comes out 3D…

“Saying all that, George remains very interested in doing the Star Wars movies, all six, in 3D, and I hope it will happen someday in the not too distant future.”

So what say you? Are you excited that the force will be strong amongst those with Blu? Let us know your thoughts below.

Avatar Coming To DVD And Blu-Ray On Earth Day

Movie News

3D

Avatar

blu ray

DVD

Earth Day

home video

james cameron

Jon Landau

release
<guid

However, they also revealed some other interesting tidbits.

First of all, this first release will be a bare-bones, film-only disc. There won’t be any special features or even an animated menu. Producer Jon Landau said, “Everything that is put on a disc takes up room — the menus, the extras, the trailers and studio promotions — and we got rid of all of that so we could give this movie the best picture and sound possible.” This is a good approach, as the visuals are the best part of the film.

Secondly, Avatar will not be available in 3D. At least for now. Director James Cameron is holding back the 3D until the at-home 3D market reaches his standards. This also makes sense. He waited for the technology to advance far enough to be able to make the film, he shouldn’t release Avatar in a brand-new 3D version for home televisions.

So when can we expect all those extras? There’s got to be loads of special features for this enormous science-fiction extravaganza. The special edition Blu-Ray will be coming sometime in November. This will once again not be in 3D, but will contain multiple discs filled with goodies.

The 3D release is still up in the air. Cameron had hoped to get it out this fall, but apparently that’s not going to happen. I guess we’re looking at next year sometime. However, Fox is still looking at a possible theatrical release of the “extended version” this fall. There are apparently five or six minutes of finished footage that hit the cutting room floor and another 15 of rough stuff. In any case, that should feed your appetite for good 3D come later this year.

Cameron and Landau will personally unveil more specifics at a press event on March 23rd.

WOLF! where?

Movie News

An American Werewolf In London

An American Werewolf in Paris

Animal House

benicio del toro

blu ray

Cat People

DVD

hbo

hollywood

hugh jackman

jack nicholson

John Landis

Lon Chaney Jr.

Michael J Fox

New Moon

robin williams

Spies Like Us

taylor lautner

Teen Wolf

The Blues Brothers

The Wolf Man

the wolfman

Tinseltown

Twilight

Underworld

valentine's day

Van Helsing

Walmart

Wolf

¡Three Amigos!
<guid

Let’s explore this particular pack of Tinseltown werewolf as I wanna hear your pick for the alpha male to lead the pack.

Benicio Del Toro has his The Wolfman set for a very romantic Valentine’s Day weekend theatrical release (February 12, 2010) while you’ll have to wait a little longer to see Taylor Lautner’s abs and werewolf if you didn’t see the Twilight Saga’s New Moon in theater as the DVD and Blu-ray are due out late this March.<img

Fox in Teen Wolf as I type) or Hugh Jackman’s Van Helsing in Walmart’s $5 DVD bin. John Landis the very same director of such classic comedies as Animal House, The Blues Brothers, Spies Like Us and ¡Three Amigos! also had a soft spot for the hairy and scary when he first gave us An American Werewolf in London followed by An American Werewolf in Paris (flag his passport already!).

<img

Now I know I haven’t mentioned every barking big screen portrayal and personally I’m more of a Cat People type of guy myself (I carry a dog whistle for protection) but who is your favorite big screen werewolf?

3D Finally coming to Blu-Ray?!?

Movie News

Avatar

blu ray

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

james cameron

sony pictures

AVATAR Movie Review, my biggest questions surrounding the amazement that is AVATAR is all around how it will fair on the Blu-ray release without the 3D technology. Well my questions have been answered, or have they?

The folks over at The Hollywood Reporter are shining the light on some 3D news. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announced Thursday that it will release 3D movies on Blu-ray Disc worldwide for the first time, beginning in the summer with the animated release of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.

Does this news solve all of my worries/questions about AVATAR coming to the small screen in the same way it did to the big screen? Only time will tell but this is a great start.

Now with every piece of news I get, there is always a bit of a downside and/or questions. This leaves the questions of this – do I need to get a new Blu-Ray player for this? Do I need a special TV that can handle this? Will my Playstation 3 be upgradable to support this due to it being a Sony device?

Lot’s more questions than I began with but a ray of hope to appease us all in the meantime! Am I the only one who is worried about the AVATAR release onto the disc format or? Let us know what you all think below in the comments.
