The Weinstein Company is pulling the plug fast on the still developing third installment of the Halloween franchise reboot done by director Rob Zombie. The film in question already received their first draft of the script, with everyone scrambling about to get this feature going with initial filming by sometime in November. The newest sequel, entitled Halloween 3D, was already set on the fast track literally days after the release of Halloween 2 (H2) with a set summer 2010 release. Deadline Hollywood has more information on the status of this film:

But I understand that Bob Weinstein shut down H3D pre-production “because Bob just felt it was rushing too fast.” Now Dimension (Films) plans to start the film after My Bloody Valentine 3D helmer Lussier is free.

Now what the big time production company plans on doing is re-releasing Halloween 2 to theaters on midnight Saturday, October 31rst. The sequel only made 32 million so far, some saying that the cause for them not earning more is not only due to its original release (August 28th) but its competition, The Final Destination. The fourth installment of yet another popular horror franchise ran away with the money, completely shutting out the Rob Zombie film box office wise in its opening weekend and it never fully recovered.

Here to rip out even more favorite eighties movies is Dimension Films who are ready to snatch up the rights to the John Landis film, An American Werewolf In London. Originally a cult classic that spawned in 1981, the original centered around two American backpackers (played by David Naughton and Griffin Dunne) hiking in the Yorkshire moors attacked by a mysterious animal who turns out to be a werewolf. Naughton ends up terrorizing London while Dunne is a reanimated corpse suggesting ways for Naughton to kill himself and stop the curse (THR).

"Another remake!? It hurtsssss."

Since this news is so ridiculously fresh right now, and barely is starting to get into development, there is nobody attached to write or direct the horror film. With the huge intake of horror remakes that have already been released (Friday the 13th) to ones that are still being made at the moment (Hellraiser) this continuing trend will not blow off any steam anytime soon, unless a huge burst of creativity suddenly pops onto the scene.

Enough teasing around, here’s something for all of you horror and Rob Zombie fans to sink your teeth into. The brand new trailer of Rob Zombie’s sequel, Halloween II or H2 for short, is out for all of us to see. Jumping back into the mix a couple of months after the terrifying events of the first movie, Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor-Compton) tries to come to terms with the fact that her brother Michael Myers (Tyler Mane) is back and ready for a sibling reunion between the two. That’s right folks, the long developing sequel from Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez‘ 2005 hit Sin City is up for grabs. I am sure a great deal of you are asking how this came to be, and that mainly is in part due to Dimension Films and the Weinstein Company who originally obtained the rights for the flick. They did have grabs on the flick, but now word from the producers is that Miller’s people as we should just call them for now, whoever they are, are shopping around the property as good as Julia Roberts did herself in Pretty Woman.

Apparently speculation of this ‘butterfingers’ notion was denied last week, saying that Dimension and Weinstein had their arms wrapped around the property. Now, the future of the sequel that a great deal of fans expected to already have well been released by now is launched into an even deeper development hell with possibly nobody to even hold onto it. Rodriguez has not mentioned a lick about being attached to the sequel, even though his creative juices flowed throughout the original all the way to convincing Frank Miller to make several of the comics from the Sin City series into a movie at all. At this point, the future of this could-be franchise is lost in the fog.
