This trailer comes courtesy of the guys over at IGN. This is the new one from director Neil Marshall, who has already given us the action thrillers Dog Soldiers, Descent and Doomsday.

This one, called Centurion, moves one letter back in the alphabet but also tells the story of a small group under attack from external forces. This time a small division of Roman centurions find themselves waylaid behind enemy lines and must fight their way to freedom. Dominic West and Olga Kurylenko head up the cast.

Despite bearing resemblance to recent sword and sandal pics like King Arthur, The Last Legion and Gladiator, Centurion looks like it might be a bit grittier than those films . Knowing Marshall, there’s likely to be some surprises along the way.

The vibe I’m getting is The Warriors set in ancient times. What do you think?

MSN has given us a freaky look into the head of M. Night Shyamalan once again. His latest creation is going to make your hair on your neck stand straight up. If not, there is something wrong with you!

The Happening is the latest in a series of epidemic movies, I am Legend, Doomsday, etc. This has a more hometown feel to it though.

Mankind has a expiration date…

Stealing from “28 days later”, “V for Vendetta” and “Madmax”, we see a futuristic look at what the government is ready to do when life becomes a political chess piece, and nothing more.

Doomsday opens with a “virus” already running rampant throughout the British Isles. The spread of the aptly named “reaper” virus is taking lives in the thousands in the first few hours of the spread.

Newspaper articles are strewn across the movie screen trying to show us the atrocities that are happening due to a massive 30 foot wall going up to contain the virus. Murder, rape, become the norm in a society left in a contamination zone to die. Or to survive?

We are introduced to Eden (our main character) as a child with her mother trying to drive out of the city only to be stopped by the sheer mass of people trying to exit before the doors are closed for good. We see lots of heads rolling, bodies flying all the while introducing laughs that shouldn’t be producing laughs. The corniness this film introduces early on continues throughout the story-line.

Present day Eden is a force to be reckoned with on the police force working under Bill Nelson (the good cop stuck in between the politically calloused and the military tyrants). We have seen this story-line many times before. Is this different? Not really.

The lack of acting ability was overcome by an immeasurable amount of blood and gore. Burning bodies, heads rolling (literally), and to make it more of a B movie, they even throw in some boobies for you to see before they got bloodied up.

With a cast of familiar british actors but no one to carry this movie, the acting falls short of anything above par. Rhona Mitra gives the audience something to look at in Eden Sinclair, but the acting falls short all around. With the likes of Bob Haskins, David O’Hara, and the ever popular Malcolm McDowell, you would expect more. This movie is a mess of chaos, overdone blood, death, boobies and more. If you are into films that have an outrageous plot line, a futuristic style, and a lack of acting. This is the movie for you. It reminds me a little of the Resident Evil series. Although its a train wreck in terms of acting, the film entertains to a degree.

Overall I would not recommend this to many of my friends.

28 Days Later x Mad Max (Escape From New York) + Lara Croft = Doomsday

Sound cool? Hell yeah it does.

Neil Marshall is one of those directors that I will watch anything he does just because he did it (there are only a few of those). Every since a buddy lent me a copy of Dog Soldiers (British soldiers fighting werewolves) about five years ago I’ve been a fan. He doesn’t have a huge body of work, but what he’s got speaks for itself (he also wrote and directed The Descent).

So what is Doomsday? Well, a virus wipes out millions so “they” decide to build a wall around Scotland and ship everyone that’s infected inside the walls and leave them to die. Man, they really fucking hate Scotland over there. 25 years later the virus is spreading again and “they’ve” seen that people inside the wall are still living, meaning the virus has a cure (or a resistant strain). Enter Rhona Mitra, (who looks enough like Kate Beckinsale that she is taking over the lead in the Underworld films) as a scientist, soldier, ??? (does it matter?) as the leader of a team of soldiers heading into the quarantined land to find this cure. Oooops, it’s now a post-apocalyptic living hell (Mad Max, Escape From New York) and the residents are not happy with the people that left them there to die.

With a cast of actors like Bob Hoskins, Malcolm McDowell, Sean Pertwee and of course Ms. Mitra, and such an exciting director behind the lens this is one that will have me in the theater, chomping down on my popcorn and snow-caps on opening day.
