Sorry, I just can’t put “Theatricality” into a three point recap because, at least for myself, some of the most entertaining moments of this episode were just that- moments not stories. I don’t know, obviously everything is a part of some story so when we find out that Principal Figgins believes that vampires are real you have to thank the Tina or Lady Gaga story line. As Tina figures out (the hard way) be yourself, don’t change for anyone.

“This is totally gonna get Robert Pattinson’s attention.”

Then there’s the Kurt and Finn story, or Finn and Kurt story depending on whose side you’re on. Finn’s mom accepts Kurt’s dad’s offer to move in only Finn’s uncomfortable with that because, at least for a little while, Kurt and Finn will have to share a room and Finn knows that Kurt likes him. The lesson that Finn learns over the course of the episode is that he has “a lot to learn” -would someone please tell me what Finn has to learn?

Finally Rachel and Coach Corcoran meet for the first time as daughter and mother. Rachel professes that she needs a mom (her two dads can’t sew). Sadly Coach Corcoran realizes that she’s not ready to have a full time relationship with her teenage daughter but promises to be around “from afar, for a while.” This relationship should continue to get interesting. I guess now would be the time to say- “That’s what you missed on Glee.”

“Brad! He’s always just around.” Brad is the accompanist with the glasses and shaggy hair that knows and plays all songs on the piano for the club. I have often dreamt of an episode devoted completely to this very mysterious character. I expect a special feature devoted to Brad on the complete first season DVD.

“Yes, for several years in my early 20s, I dressed up as Elvis. But he was a Christian… and he did not possess the ability to transform into a bat!” thank you for that lovely nugget of gold Principal Figgins. I realize that I have not given Principal Figgins enough love and would like to take this time to say that I want more Figgins. Figgins! Figgins! Figgins!

Finally what are your thoughts on the almost fully developed trend of lyrics replacing more and more dialogue?

Gleeks unite! September 14th Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment releases the complete first season of GLEE on Blu-ray and DVD! You better believe there’s extras, here’s what series creator Ryan Murphy had to say about all of those wonderful extras you’ll find only on the  four-disc Blu-ray and seven-disc DVD set-

“The show started out as a comedy musical about the underdog in all of us and has blossomed, largely due to the incredible support and passion from the fans that have embraced the show…. When we developed the Blu-ray and DVD, we wanted to give those fans something special because they’ve been so great to us. There’s everything from a sing-along karaoke, to a behind-the-scenes look at our Madonna episode, to a dance lesson from our amazing choreographers. There’s even some all new Sue’s Corners which have never been seen before. It’s our ‘thank you’ to the Gleeks.”

If you haven’t seen an episode of GLEE yet then maybe these awards will help sway you- winner of the Golden Globe® for Best Television Series, Comedy or Musical. Winner! People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Comedy (Hello! That’s sayin’ somethin’ in a year that also debuted ABC’s Modern Family and NBC’s Community!) and winner of the Screen Actors Guild Award for Oustanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series (Again, they beat out Modern Family and Community!)

Goodness! I’m still thinkin’ about those special features! Why can’t the DVD’s be released next week?! What’re you looking forward to?

Actually that is the English title and I’m not prepared to Rosetta Stone the French language though I am willing to read subtitles which you’ll have to do if you wanna watch this spy comedy instant classic. If OSS 117 sounds familiar that’s because Lost in Rio is the sequel to Cairo, Nest of Spies (2008 US). If neither of these titles ring a bell then let me strongly urge that you see both! Cairo, Nest of Spies can be found on DVD while some lucky Americans can still see Lost in Rio (a May 7, 2010 limited release) in theater (Apparently Dallas, TX is not a part of that limited release so Imust wait for DVD.) OSS 117 is the alias of Hubert Bonisseur de La Bath, played by Jean Dujardin, a spy that’s one part Casino Royale (1967), two parts Maxwell Smart, with a dash of Austin Powers. Sound like your kind of espionage cocktail? Here’s the official synopsis-

Twelve years after Cairo, OSS 117 is back on a new mission at the other end of the world. As he tracks down a microfilm that is compromising for the French State, France’s most famous secret agent will have to team up with the Mossad’s most seductive lieutenant—colonel in order to capture a Nazi blackmailer. Tomorrow, on Earth Day, Avatar will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray. However, you still have a chance to see the film on the big screen. In an interview with the LA Times, James Cameron revealed his plans for an Avatar re-release as well as a sequel.

First, Cameron said that Weta is working on an additional six minutes, which will be added to the movie for a theatrical re-release this August. He added:

“It’ll be interesting because it’ll be on DVD by then, but I think “Avatar” is kind of a unique category where people are enjoying the unique theatrical experience even though they may have seen it on the small screen. They want to have that immersive, transportive experience.”

He went on to compare the film to 2001: A Space Odyssey, which is a little pretentious, but I understand his point. The number of movies that could be successful during a second run in this economy is very low, but I think Avatar has a lot of potential, both from people that somehow missed the movie the first time around, as well as those of us who want to return to the experience again.

Cameron also discussed his ideas for Avatar 2: “Part of my focus in the second film is in creating a different environment – a different setting within Pandora. And I’m going to be focusing on the ocean on Pandora, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative, but it just won’t be a rain forest. I’m not saying we won’t see what we’ve already seen; we’ll see more of that as well.”

The director said that production should run much more smoothly the second time around, so we will be back on Pandora sometime in the near future. However, being a science fiction fan, I’m more excited to see more of the space setting that was established at the very beginning of Avatar. Well, Cameron stated that the third film will focus more on the Alpha Centauri AB System that includes Pandora.

In any case, I don’t see the need for an Avatar sequel. I’ve always believed that a movie should stand alone, unless the story calls for a continuation. However, I understand that a series is inevitable after such an enormous success and I trust Cameron will do it his way and make another breathtaking movie.

This post goes out to my girlfriend, it’s got everything she likes- The TODAY Show, Steve Carrel, Tina Fey, Date Night the movie and the date night when we inevitably see the movie. I do think the movie looks entertaining but I also own The Man Who Knew Too Little on DVD so I’m a sucker for “not who you think I am” comedies I just usually rent them, after all how does the big screen enhance “you’ve got us confused with someone else!” *stepping down from soapbox. So Tina Fey of NBC’s best comedy 30 Rock and Steve Carrel of NBC’s former best comedy The Office were on NBC’s TODAY this morning, did any of you see this? Probably not and that’s why you’re here! Today, 20th Century Fox announced their plans for releasing Avatar on home video. To get right to the point, the Blu-Ray and DVD will be out on Earth Day, April 22. However, they also revealed some other interesting tidbits.

First of all, this first release will be a bare-bones, film-only disc. There won’t be any special features or even an animated menu. Producer Jon Landau said, “Everything that is put on a disc takes up room — the menus, the extras, the trailers and studio promotions — and we got rid of all of that so we could give this movie the best picture and sound possible.” This is a good approach, as the visuals are the best part of the film.

Secondly, Avatar will not be available in 3D. At least for now. Director James Cameron is holding back the 3D until the at-home 3D market reaches his standards. This also makes sense. He waited for the technology to advance far enough to be able to make the film, he shouldn’t release Avatar in a brand-new 3D version for home televisions.

So when can we expect all those extras? There’s got to be loads of special features for this enormous science-fiction extravaganza. The special edition Blu-Ray will be coming sometime in November. This will once again not be in 3D, but will contain multiple discs filled with goodies.

The 3D release is still up in the air. Cameron had hoped to get it out this fall, but apparently that’s not going to happen. I guess we’re looking at next year sometime. However, Fox is still looking at a possible theatrical release of the “extended version” this fall. There are apparently five or six minutes of finished footage that hit the cutting room floor and another 15 of rough stuff. In any case, that should feed your appetite for good 3D come later this year.

Cameron and Landau will personally unveil more specifics at a press event on March 23rd.

Unstage.com agrees with us that the art of film doesn’t start on the screen. They have compiled a list of 150 Creative Movie Posters. You may remember Unstage from their list of 100+ Creative Covers (DVD packaging) and though you might think the poster and DVD cover are the same image often times they are not (and sometimes they should be the same image). In their words:

We’ve assembled a great collection of DVD covers from past to current releases that break away from the sadly repetitive collages we’ve come to expect from the industry.

I only wish I’d thought of this myself! I totally agree that DVD covers can (and should) be art (artful?) but, sadly, the average DVD cover art looks something like this:

Not for one second do I (or you) believe that those heads match those bodies or that those bodies ever posed with that box (time machine) but this is what we’re being sold. Now I have been accused of buying a bottle of wine based solely on its cover (I JUDGE BOOKS BY THEIR COVER, seriously , check it out) but I’ve never bought a DVD just for the cover. Promise. Something else: doesn’t it suck that a good lookin’ cover doesn’t always make for a good poster or a good poster isn’t always a good cover?
