I really liked Nathan’s Chillers list and it got me thinkin’ of my favorite type (don’t think there’s a “spooky” genre) of movie — that is, a movie that’s spooky, sometimes scary, suspenseful, thrilling, mysterious and many times pure fun! Here in no particular order (though you should know that The ‘Burbs is my favorite movie of all time) are my top spooky movies-

Rear Window

The fabulous Wait Until Dark (1967) starring Audrey Hepburn as a blind woman who levels the playing field with her attackers.

The Ghost and Mr. Chicken

The Shining (classic), The Thing (1982), From Hell (greatest conspiracy theory movie outside of Conspiracy Theory the movie?)

Ravenous

The Lost Boys (Kiefer Sutherland vs. Cory Feldman = everyone wins), Poltergeist, Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, The ‘Burbs (it’s personal and personally the entire cast and crew have NEVER been better.)

Young Frankenstein

Shadow of the Vampire

Clue. I’m really worried about the rumored remake; after all  the original is already the best movie ever adapted from a board game!

Here is the second trailer to be released for the upcoming A Nightmare on Elm Street remake (reboot?) starring Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen). Unlike the first trailer this one really gets to the action and shows us just how terrifying Freddy’s terrorizing will be.

What are your thoughts on this Michael Bay reboot? Any fans of the original Nightmare excited about this? Better yet, any fans of the umpteen sequels to the original want a reboot? Personally I’m more of a Michael Myers fan (HELLO, So I Married an Axe Murderer) so it seems a little too timely that the Nightmare franchise would reboot after the success of Rob Zombie’s Halloween (let’s not talk about Halloween 2) but Money Talks isn’t just a movie starring Chris Tucker and Charlie Sheen. The original Halloween is an iconic film, a staple of John Carpenter’s career and a landmark in horror film history.

Rob Zombie’s remake of Halloween was a confusing an abstract mess with a large smattering of interesting ideas that just didn’t seem to gel right. House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects, however, proved that Zombie was a very capable director, whose knack for unique  imagery could potentially be channeled into a great film.

His next film is a sequel to his Halloween remake, scheduled for release this week on August 28th. To help prepare you, we’ve got our hands on an exclusive clip! Take a look at it below. Hopefully this film marks a turnaround for the director after a brief stumble. I’m thinking that’ll be the case. Enjoy!

H2 stars Malcolm McDowell, Tyler Mane and Scout Taylor-Compton. The upcoming horror film written & directed by Rob Zombie will be slashing its way into theaters on August 28th.
