I can’t get beyond this story from “Britney/Brittany” so I’ll rely on all of you to remind me of anything else that happened this week on Glee.

Dr. Carl should have his license revoked. Seriously, he flirts with high school students more than he flirts with his own girlfriend. Side note- shouldn’t there be another, more popular term, for the significant other of an adult? I vote we limit the terms “boyfriend” and “girlfriend” to high school and college relationships. Did I mention that Dr. Carl administers nitrous oxide to just about anyone, whether or not it is medically necessary? I hate that John Stamos’ cameo has been ruined for me because he plays a complete creep!

And Rachel’s teeth turned completely blue after chewing a disclosing tablet? Yuck! I mean, she’s still pretty and I like that she flosses her teeth a minimum 5-6 times a day (my dad is a dentist) but maybe a little Sonicare wouldn’t be such an unwelcome addition to her inbetween classes routine?.

I’d like to see Santana not so trashy. I did not care for Brittany’s mean girl act. I agree with Dr. Carl that Will needs to be wearing a Night Guard, I imagine both Emma and Sue would also benefit from said dental appliance. Maybe the biggest reason I didn’t enjoy this week’s episode, other than Britney overload, was the minimal use of Jane Lynch. Jane Lynch is the oil this machine needs to run like… you know

Is anyone entertained by the, mostly forced, relationship drama between Rachel and Finn? Or Will and Emma? I can’t figure out where I want this show to go. Where do you see these stories going?

Glee “Home” 4/27/10

TV Recaps

Burt Bacharach

fox

fred willard

glee

jane lynch

kristin chenoweth

Modern Family

Party Down

Pushing Daisies

Sue Sylvester

Ty Burrell
<guid

Mercedes tries Sue’s diet and realizes she’s happy with the way she is, or was before the diet and Kristin Chenoweth graces us with her presence.

Sue Sylvester Master Cleanse- water, maple syrup for glucose, lemon for acid, cayenne pepper to irritate the bowels and a dash of ipecac a vomiting agent. When that recipe was recited by Jane Lynch (Party Down) is was perfectly hilarious in its absurdity, now that I read it I realize it’s just sick. That is the power of Jane Lynch, I could quote almost every line she delivers in any given Glee episode but they’ll always sound evil (at best) only Jane Lynch can turn those lines into the purest of black comedy. Jane Lynch is to Glee what Ty Burrell is to Modern Family, invaluable and the more we get of either actor the better.

Okay while I’m making comparisons I say that Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies) is every bit as awesome a talent and asset in a guest starring role to this program as Fred Willard is to Modern Family. Sometimes I wonder if either Chenoweth or Willard were weekly regulars would we still love them? I think so. I think I know so. I know so.

Anybody else wonder where Quinn’s baby bump has gone? For that matter where has Quinn been?

“I’m pretty sure my cat’s been reading my diary” may I suggest keeping a blog instead of a diary, cats hate computers.

“Sometimes you just need a little Burt (Bacharach)” truer words were never spoken.

What was your favorite part of “Home?”

Adventures of Power Movie Review

Movie Reviews

Adrian Grenier

Adventures of Power

Ari Gold

jane lynch

Michael McKean

Richard Fancy

Steven Williams
<guid

It’s geared towards the youth – kids and teens who thought the aforementioned Dynamite was hilarious and quoted it incessantly. It is also, a very clean film. The raciest thing in the entire film is the back of a topless woman and I don’t remember any swearing at all so parents can feel okay about leaving their children to see this while they catch something a little more mature. Most people out of high school will have a couple of chuckles and that’s it. However, those younger or with a younger sensibility will find lots here to giggle about and new lines to quote incessantly.

Power grows up in the small mining town of Lode, New Mexico. He lives in the basement of the house of his aunt, Joanie (Jane Lynch), although his father Harlan (Michael McKean) works in the same copper factory. Power gets fired from his job at the same time that his father starts a walkout for more pay, or better benefits, or something. Power tries to join the picket lines but his father sends him away, having to remind Power that he’s been fired and no longer has a stake in what happens at the plant. There’s something wrong with Power. He’s a little mentally slow, and not in a cute Forrest Gump kind of way. More in a he-shouldn’t-be-walking-around-without-a-helmet-on kind of way. I don’t particularly like this tactic of garnering sympathy for the hero of the film just because he’s an idiot and doesn’t know any better. It feels weak and a bit exploitative, but I may just be too sensitive.

Regardless, Power gets around. In fact his air drumming dream takes him to Mexico where he stumbles across an underground illegal air drum competition (where the losers get mauled by chihuahuas and chickens) then to Newark to practice with the best air drummer in the world, Carlos (Steven Williams). Carlos used to really play the drums but he is now a double amputee. Funny! The story is common “underdog makes good” and there is nothing terribly superb from the actors (Lynch and McKean are both desperately underused) except for Shoshannah Stern. She plays Annie, a deaf girl (she lost her hearing at a Styx concert) in Newark that Power falls in love with. Her charisma and backbone made up what Power had been lacking the entire movie. Scenes where he is “showing” her the music he’s listening to were actually touching and I thought it a brilliant idea.

Power’s adversary is Dallas Houston, played with smarmy aplomb by Entourage’s Adrian Grenier. He is a country/rap/rock artist who’s selling millions of records but really, deep down in his heart, only wants to be an air drummer. Dallas’s father, Dick Houston (Richard Fancy), coincidentally, owns the copper factory Power’s father is picketing. See how this sets up an ending where Dallas and Power face off AND their fathers face off? There is a large Newark air drummer competition (that is televised, by the way, so the people back in Lode can watch and cheer Power on) where air drummers from around the country compete to see who is the best air drummer. Can I say air drummer any more often?

In the end, the film will work for children, for teenagers, for adults who think like teenagers or children. It will inspire people to see that all you need is some air drums to sound your own beat upon. I can see kids putting on sweatbands and holding air drum competitions in their back yards while blasting Genesis or Rush. For anyone looking for something with more substance then air, look elsewhere.

<strong

Never give up your dream. Never let anyone keep you down. Those are the first three things that came to me after I watched “The Rocker.” This comedy is about hope and keeping your dreams alive. Yes there is a naked drummer. And yes, there are some penis jokes. And yes, it does star that other guy from TV’s “The Office.” But deep down there is a message in this movie and I felt it.

Cleveland, 1986. The up and coming metal band Vesuvius is on the rise. They have a chance to go from local bar-room favorites to a major recording contract. The only catch is they have to can their drummer and take on the head of the record company’s nephew as the new drummer. Done. And just like that Robert “Fish” Fishman’s (Rainn Wilson) world comes crashing down. His vision of being a rock-and-roll legend have been shattered as his band moves on without him.

Twenty years later, Fish still has not gotten over his one time dream. Every time he hears the name Vesuvius mentioned it puts him into an angry rage. He has lost relationships and his job many times due to this repressed anger that will not go away.

Staying at his sister (Jane Lynch) and her husband Stan’s (Jeff Garlin) house, Fish is left to ponder what will happen to him and his boring life. Their house is in the shadows of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Fish can see the life he never had each and every time he looks at the building

His nephew Matt (Josh Gad) is in a bad called A.D.D. and they are set to play the Prom that weekend. However they have one problem…their drummer just got suspended from school so he isn’t allowed to play. The band needs a drummer and Matt just happens to know the guy. Enter Fish and his 20-year wait coming to an end.

The band A.D.D. is just what Fish needed to relive the life he never got to live. Fish, on the other hand, is what the band needed to jump start their career and get out of Cleveland. Fish teaches Curtis(Teddy Geiger) and Amelia (Emma Stone) along with Matt what it takes to be a rock band.

I enjoyed this movie. I went into it thinking that it would be so-so as I’m not a big Rainn Wilson fan. Yet I came out of the movie very happy that it wasn’t bad at all. There are laughs from the first minute up to the 80′s freeze frame ending. The pace was very good and with only one to two slow spots, I wasn’t worrying about the length of time. This is a great date night movie and when finished, you won’t feel as if you had spent all night at the movies

Last impressions – SEE THIS MOVIE – you won’t regret it.

“The Rocker” is rated PG-13 for drug and sexual references, nudity and language. Directed by Peter Cattaneo and has a run time of 102 minutes.

<strong
