I can hear your mouse clicking away from this page, but wait! You’re obviously a fan of the first TRON (or like me you can’t imagine how you haven’t seen the first and are hoping Hulu, Netflix or Blockbuster will come through before December 17th, 2010). Okay, so I’m going to watch the original much sooner than the release date of TRON: LEGACY but you get my point — I was wrong in not seeing TRON. It has been on my list for some time but it hasn’t been on any of my movie channels to DVR (sorry Disney Channel, I won’t DVR a movie with commercials) then I see the images and teaser trailer for TRON: LEGACY and I’m hooked! Jeff Bridges? yes, please! A futuristic landscape that would make George Lucas and Stanley Kubrick proud? um, hell yeah! So there you have it I’ve confessed, repented and am now going to obey — I’m seeing TRON tonight! Please share with me your thoughts on the original and now the sequel, and whether I’m right in thinking Lucas or Kubrick would appreciate TRON.

Carl Erik Rinsch Will Deliver ’47 Ronin’

Movie News

47 Ronin

Carl Erik Rinsch

chris morgan

Keanu Reeves

Ridley Scott

The Last Samurai

Wanted
<guid

However, Scott took Rinsch off the project to see over it himself, leading the man to head in another direction: that of 47 Ronin.

In a logline that reads like someone didn’t quite understand why The Last Samurai didn’t work, 47 Ronin will be an “epic period samurai swordsmen tale that will star Keanu Reeves” which will tell “the famous fact-based story of a band of samurai swordsmen who avenge the death of their master in 18th century Japan.”

You heard me right. Keanu Reeves. Samurai. I know the guy’s half Asian — that doesn’t stop him from having the acting chops of a bump on a log. Rinsch, who cut his teeth on car commercials, will direct the film from a script by Chris Morgan, the man who wrote Wanted. This film is quickly getting the chips stacked against it, but I’ll reserve judgment for when I see the final product. Who knows — maybe we’ll have a Neil Blomkamp-esque success on our hands that completely exceeds my expectations.

Cowboy Bebop Gets A Do-Over

Movie News

Cowboy Bebop

Keanu Reeves

Peter Craig

Twentieth Century Fox

"...woah"

Everyone’s favorite surfer talking Hollywood star Keanu Reeves is ready to transform himself into a completely different being all together. Universal Pictures is ready to completely retell, in a modern sense, the famed story of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Exact plot details are kept under wraps, other than the obvious premise of a doctor who scientifically forms another part of himself, but Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road) is penning up the script.

Of course this is not the first time they’ve made a film out of this popular Robert Louis Stevenson’s story, jumping from many adaptations since the early 1900s relating closely to the story even to comedic based forms such as Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde. Nicholas Winding Refn is in talks to helm the flick with Erwin Stoff (The Day The Earth Stood Still 2008), Douglas Wick (RV) and Lucy Fisher (Memoirs of a Geisha). No date yet for the film, but when that and other news comes along, keep your eyes here on Atomic Popcorn for it all.

The Day the Earth Stood Still Movie Review

Movie Reviews

Keanu Reeves

keanue reeves

It really did seem to stand still

Last night was he first time I saw a film in IMAX and I must say I am was amazed at the overall quality of sound and video. It was like watching my Blu-Rays with a 12,000 watt sound system behind it on a screen that even in the back row made my head turn from time to time.

With the folks allowing us to see the Wolverine Trailer, I must say that that was the high point of the film. When you start a review with the highpoint being the trailer prior, it must be bad.

Keanu Reeves is Klaatu, an Alien from a race that represents a conglomeration of galaxies that need to save earth. Earth is one of the few existing planets that can regenerate if left alone. His goal is to decide whether or not the Human race belongs there any longer. We are killing the earth and if the earth dies we all die.

So a kind of cool premise to a movie that was horribly acted by one of the worst actors out there to date. Keanu Reeves had problems playing a “human” in this movie. He honestly plays an Alien who comes to earth as a Human as he once was. So Keanu needs to play a human, and by golly, he ruins it. His acting was the same as in all of his other movies. I honestly have no idea why folks cast him any longer.

A while back with the introduction of this movies trailer on the net I saw a comment on the site that said “Johnny Mnemonic wants his suit back”. This hits the nail on the head entirely, the movie was too short, underacted, over FX’d and many more things.

The highlight of the film was watching Jennifer Connelly in IMAX quality. Man she is a hottie! Even Will Smith’s little son put up a better performance than Keanu.

Now on to the movie review:

The concept of the movie is a pretty slick idea for a movie. The movie itself was done poorly and possibly rushed a little. The short running time may of pushed it to the poor side of things though. A movie that should show us how the world possibly could end should be a longer, more explanatory movie. This was not at all.

Short of it all – the movie was entertaining if you are a Sci-Fi junkie who loves a good FX, but overall the acting was sub par by all involved even the entertaining Kathy Bates.

I would say a rental if at all.
<p
