Atomic Popcorn brings you yet another Top 10 Tuesday! This time we are bring you a list of some of the best chase scenes around. While most of us think about chase scenes involving cars, I have added a few to my list of chases without cars. While this list begs for more attention, I think i have highlighted some of the best there is, and I ask for your additions to this list.

I am aiming to have this column be something in which we can talk about and struggle with coming up with the best of the best for that Tuesday’s topic.

10. Mad Max -What more can you say about this one, a true Gibson classic.

9. Matrix Reloaded – I can only find half of it online, but only half of it still garners a top 10 spot!

8. Gone in 60 seconds – This is the ORIGINAL baby!

7. Tranporter 3 Bike Chase – Yes I am well aware that this is on a bike and can’t possibly happen, but it’s fun as hell to watch.

6. Bullitt – Featuring Steve “badass” McQueen.

5. James Bond The Spy Who Loved Me – Skiing anyone? The Winter Olympics should be proud!

4. Enemy of the State – this still holds up as a great flick along with some great chase scenes. If you can find the full chase scene let me know -

3. Casino Royale – Madagascar in HD! Enjoy it.

It really did seem to stand still

Last night was he first time I saw a film in IMAX and I must say I am was amazed at the overall quality of sound and video. It was like watching my Blu-Rays with a 12,000 watt sound system behind it on a screen that even in the back row made my head turn from time to time.

With the folks allowing us to see the Wolverine Trailer, I must say that that was the high point of the film. When you start a review with the highpoint being the trailer prior, it must be bad.

Keanu Reeves is Klaatu, an Alien from a race that represents a conglomeration of galaxies that need to save earth. Earth is one of the few existing planets that can regenerate if left alone. His goal is to decide whether or not the Human race belongs there any longer. We are killing the earth and if the earth dies we all die.

So a kind of cool premise to a movie that was horribly acted by one of the worst actors out there to date. Keanu Reeves had problems playing a “human” in this movie. He honestly plays an Alien who comes to earth as a Human as he once was. So Keanu needs to play a human, and by golly, he ruins it. His acting was the same as in all of his other movies. I honestly have no idea why folks cast him any longer.

A while back with the introduction of this movies trailer on the net I saw a comment on the site that said “Johnny Mnemonic wants his suit back”. This hits the nail on the head entirely, the movie was too short, underacted, over FX’d and many more things.

The highlight of the film was watching Jennifer Connelly in IMAX quality. Man she is a hottie! Even Will Smith’s little son put up a better performance than Keanu.

Now on to the movie review:

The concept of the movie is a  pretty slick idea for a movie. The movie itself was done poorly and possibly rushed a little. The short running time may of pushed it to the poor side of things though. A movie that should show us how the world possibly could end should be a longer, more explanatory movie. This was not at all.

Short of it all – the movie was entertaining if you are a Sci-Fi junkie who loves a good FX, but overall the acting was sub par by all involved even the entertaining Kathy Bates.

I would say a rental if at all.

20th Century Fox has released this new international trailer for The Day the Earth Stood Still which gives us a nice long look at the robot Gort. I do think this is the first true visual of Gort. What is Gort you ask? Well he is a big bad robot ready to crush the earth. A more precise well thought out blurb can be found below.

Gort is a fictional humanoid robot in the 1951 film The Day the Earth Stood Still and its 2008 remake. The giant metal robot accompanies Klaatu, a visitor to Earth from a distant planet, aboard a flying saucer. He does not speak, but uses a beam weapon projected from beneath a visor to vaporize weapons and obstacles. Klaatu described him as being part of an interstellar police force. He claims that the people of the universe constructed numerous robots like Gort and gave them irrevocable powers to respond to violent actions in order to “preserve the peace.” He further claims that “There’s no limit to what [Gort] could do. He could destroy the Earth

The Day the Earth Stood Still is scheduled to hit theaters on December 12th 2008.

Before the encore presentation of J.J. Abrams’ kick ass new show “Fringe” on Fox last night, an extended 7-minute preview for the upcoming remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still aired. Now I do want to say this before you get to carried away with watching it below. Keanu Reeves is a horrid actor. He is a one facet actor and every role he plays, he plays the same way. With that out of the way, the earth will not stand still for this horrible looking movie.

Check out the trailer below and let me know if you think Keanu is acting any different than in an other of his movies. I would go as far as saying he and Brenden Fraser are up for the worst actors of our time.

The Day the Earth Stood Still will open on December 12th of this year.
