I would attribute most of Parks and Recreation’s awesome to two men, Nick Offerman and Aziz Ansari. While I’m still trying to get Mr. Offerman a woodworking program on PBS, Aziz Ansari can be seen Sunday June 6th hosting the nineteenth annual MTV MOVIE AWARDS. Indeed Aziz can be seen anywhere these days, from Human Giant to Funny People (Adam Sandler), Observe and Report (Seth Rogen), I Love You, Man (Jason Segal) and the soon-to-be-released Get Him to the Greek (Russell Brand). Can’t wait until June for some MTV and Aziz comedy? Enjoy.

<br

To vote, go to MovieAwards.MTV.com.

Voting will be open for the nominees until April 9. Then, votes for the winners will be taken starting May 11.

This year, you will be able to vote on 13 categories including Best Kiss, Best Fight, Best WTF Moment, and, of course, Best Movie. This year, 3 new awards will be given out: Global Superstar, Best Ass-Kicking Star, and Best Scared-Assh**t Performance.

The winners will be announced live on MTV on June 6, 2010 at 9PM ET. This year’s host is Aziz Ansari, who stars in the NBC comedy “Parks and Recreation.”

Most of the time these “vote for the winner” awards shows are utterly worthless, but usually MTV’s is a fun show. However, in order to make the show great, you need to go vote. Hopefully, these awards can reward the movies that were great, but also have mass appeal.

So, who do you want to see win come June 6th? Or is awards season over in your mind?

Jersey Shore: Even Some Haters Get Addicted

TV News

Jersey Shore

mtv
<guid

Between its debut Dec. 3 and its fourth episode last week, the audience for MTV’s new Jersey Shore series has grown from 1.4 million to 2.5 million, according to TVbytheNumbers.com.

Cast members were guests of Conan, Leno and Jimmy Kimmel last week. SNL spoofed the show Saturday night. Ashton Kutcher has gushed that Jersey Shore is “blowing my mind” and acknowledged that he’s a “huge fan.”

The series has also attracted its share of critics, especially among tourism officials and members of Italian-American organizations.

The show follows the lives of a group of twenty-somethings — all self-identified “Guidos” and “Guidettes” — sharing a bungalow in Seaside Heights, N.J.

As one of them explains: “I was born and raised a ‘Guido.’ It’s just a lifestyle. It’s being Italian, it’s representing, um, friends, family, tanning, [hair] gel, everything.”

Not necessarily in that order, we’d guess. We’re pretty sure tanning or hair gel would come first.

While the show’s Facebook fan base is rapidly growing (poised to break 200,000 when we last checked), a group called “MTV’s ‘Jersey Shore’ is a Disgrace to the Jersey Shore and its Inhabitants” had also picked up almost 70,000 fans.

“If everyone just stopped watching the show, it just might go away,” one suggested.

Not likely. One reason for its popularity seems to be that it appeals both to people who hate to love it and to those who love to hate it.

As one woman tweeted, “Jersey Shore iz tha most ridiculous show; but itz so addicting.”

The next new episode airs 10 p.m. New Year’s Eve.

“Avatar” comes to MTV, Facebook

Movie News

TV News

James Cameron's Avatar

mtv
<guid

He was 52.

Airing at the apex of the MTV Network’s history, 1987 through 1990, Remote Control pitted three teenage or young adult contestants in a trivia competition, answering questions about music, television, and pop culture. The show also featured skits and character sketches from new improv comedians, helping launch the careers of Colin Quinn, Denis Leary and Adam Sandler. Several episodes are available online.

Remote Control, aside from being thoroughly enjoyable even two decades later, was notable for being one of MTV’s first forays into non-music video programming. The game show paved a path for all the subversively weird programming MTV would soon become famous for: Liquid Television, Beavis and Butt-Head, The State, Jackass, and Wonder Showzen all owe a debt of gratitude to Ken Ober and his comedic dissidence.

Sadly, following Remote Control’s cancellation, Ober all but disappeared from the mainstream entertainment world. After Remote Control’s fifth season, his resume included hosting Game Show Network’s “Make Me Laugh”, USA’s “Smush” and ESPN’s short-lived “Perfect Match.”

Aside from ill-received game shows, Ober’s post-MTV career included co-hosting “Ober and Olsen,” an LA-based talk radio show with Brady Bunch alum Susan Olsen from 1995-1996. In 2002, he served as producer for the cult favorite TV show “Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn.” Most recently, he served as a consulting producer for CBS sitcom “The New Adventures of Old Christine.” Most ignobly, he served as writer and producer for the terrible Comedy Central program “Mind of Mencia.”

Regardless of his disappearance from American eyes and television screens, a great comedian and an underrated icon has passed on. On behalf of the MTV generation, pop culture junkies and game show enthusiasts everywhere, we proclaim that Ken Ober will be missed.

Fan Choices for Spider-Man 4 Villain Grab Director’s Attention

Movie News

fans

Gary Ross

Marvel

mtv

sam raimi

spider-man

Spider-Man 4

villain
<guid

However, director Sam Raimi has expressed his interest in potentially pursuing fan suggestions for Spidey’s newest nemesis.

MTV recently ran a poll on their website, asking fans to vote for their choice for the next Spider-Man villain. The results showed fan favorites to be The Lizard and Carnage. Raimi seemed pleased with the possibilities, saying ,”I love the Lizard…There’s a great story there in the Marvel comic books about Dr. Connors. I’m less familiar with Carnage.”

At this point, Gary Ross’s script for Spider-Man 4 is still unfinished, so nothing is yet set in stone as to who will be the villain counterpart to Spider-Man’s hero, but we can hope that Raimi will pass his interest in fan suggestions on to Ross, who will then write in a villain the fans want to see.
