Johnny Depp: Revolutionary

Johnny Depp has made a name for himself as an actor largely due to his ability to fully take on the character he’s playing, which adds a dimension of believability to his portrayal 0f the role. This talent should serve Depp beautifully in his next potential role, Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa.

While Depp hasn’t officially signed on to play the hero, he is in advanced talks to join director Emir Kusturica on the biopic Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman With Six Fingers. This isn’t the first time the two have worked together, having joined forces on 1993′s Arizona Dream. Salma Hayek is also in talks for the film.

The script for Seven Friends is based off of a biographical novel about Pancho Villa, which tells how Villa and his friends were known for their fighting and robbing the rich also spent time dancing, partying and making love. The film will be in Spanish, and filmed partially in Mexico.

Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman With Six Fingers isn’t set to begin filming until 2011, due to prior commitments by Depp.

More Voices for ‘Puss in Boots’

If you’re a fan of the Shrek movies, then you already know that a fourth film, Shrek Forever After, is set to hit theaters in May of next year. What you may not know is that the Shrek franchise has its first spin-off film in the works.

The new film, Puss in Boots, wil focus on–you guessed it–Puss in Boots, the would-be assassin turned sidekick introduced in Shrek II. The movie about the little orange cat will follow Puss’s adventures prior to his meeting Shrek and Donkey.

Antonio Banderas will reprise his role as Puss in Boots, with Salma Hayek starring alongside him as the voice of “Kitty.” As the film moves forward, negotiations are taking place for the casting of other characters in the film.

Currently, Zach Galifianakis, who played the lovable but slightly-off Alan in this summer’s The Hangover, is in talks to voice the role of Humpty Dumpty.

Puss in Boots is being written by Tom Wheeler, with Shrek the Third co-writer/co-director Chris Miller at the helm.

‘The Green Hornet’ moves release dates thanks to Adam Sandler’s ‘Grown Ups’

Columbia has moved Michel Gondry’s upcoming adaptation of TV’s The Green Hornet back two weeks to accommodate Denni Dugan’s comedy, Grown Ups. Green Hornet will be moving from June 25, 2010 to July 9, 2010 while Grown Ups moves from March 12th to a spiffy new June 15th date.
Columbia is hoping to rake in some cash before the third entry in the tween vampire series, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, drops in to swoon suburban goth girls.
The Green Hornet stars Seth Rogen as newspaper publisher Britt Reid. When not working to save his daily from the evil of the economy, he puts on a green mask and saves damsels.

According to an interview by Rogen while promoting Monsters vs. Aliens in Australia earlier this year, the co-scribe and star, stated that the film will be an “origin story,” but not in the traditional sense. “…it’ll be unlike every other superhero film out there,” he mentioned to The Jono & Dano Show. The story will mainly focus on Green Hornet’s origin as a news man, but will also highlight the special bond between Hornet and his faithful man-servant Kato (played by former Green Hornet director Stephen Chow). Adding another info-nugget, the story will also present Britt Reid as a “normal guy” whereas Kato is the “superhero.”

Dugan’s Grown Ups stars the fabo cast of Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider and the lovely Ms. Salma Hayek. The story is about five best friends from high school who reunite 30 years later on a Fourth of July weekend.

Dugan has also directed Big Daddy and Happy Gilmore.
