Scott Sanders’ blaxploitation homage Black Dynamite is one of those films I feel like I’ve heard about for the past year without hearing a concrete word on whether it’s good or not. Regardless, we’ve got the last trailer for the film before its release on October 16th this year.

The film stars Michael Jai White (famous for Spawn but more famous for getting himself tossed by the Joker in The Dark Knight), Arsenio Hall (!!!) and Nicole Sullivan of MadTV fame, amongst others.

Judging by this trailer from Yahoo, they’ve pulled off the aesthetic of these sorts of bygone films with precision. Check it out.

Look no further for the most bad ass man to hit the scene, with Apparition picking up some distribution rights for the blaxploitation film Black Dynamite. Sony Pictures (Worldwide) still holds onto the feature, but is sharing along with Apparition in order to domestically distribute the seventies set film to audiences nationwide. Originally introduced to the general public during this past year’s Sundance Film Festival, there’s been some anticipation building on this afro wearing hero of sorts.

Jumping back and forth from a early to late fall release date, the film in question will hold a platform release on October 16th. Directed by Scott Sanders and starring Michael Jai White, this film has already shared a nice deal of the spotlight with the festivals it has hit during this past year, not only that being of Sundance but Toronto, etc.

“Get on up and check the scene, of the smoothest, baddest mother to ever hit the big screen!”

What am I referring to this time around? I’m talking about the upcoming spoof blackspolitation film called Black Dynamite, directed by Scott Sanders (Thick Thieves). Set in the early 1970s, Black Dynamite (Michael Jai White), a former CIA agent, is called back into the business when the Italian mob kills his brother, fills black orphanages with heroin, and floods the street with bad malt liquor. He soon discovers a vast conspiracy that reaches to places he would not even imagine.

The film already has been given quite some exposure, screening already at Sundance Film Festival, Los Angeles Film Festival (tonight for those of you who are in the area) and the Edinburgh Film Festival. Drawing in quite some positive reviews and generating some buzz from the stuff that’s shown purely in the trailer, once this ‘jive turkey’ is released on the big screen it will definitely draw in some crowds (including myself). Keep yourself ready for some kung-fu action, some laugh out loud comedy and some good story on December 4th (thanks for the correction Jive Turkey), with the help of ARS Nova and Columbia pictures among others, in theaters.

Even though it would not be orthodox for something big name to go ‘green’, this is not the kind of green were normally talking about. This particular green is Disney’s latest creation, The Odd Life of Timothy Green. Spawning from an idea from actor and producer Ahmet Zappa, Disney nabbed themselves someone to take part of the ‘modernized fable’.

Director and writer Peter Hedges (Dan In Real Life) will pen and obviously direct the new feature. Zappa will produce alongside Scott Sanders. Disney is keeping the plot under wraps for the time being, but once this puppy gets rolling there will be a big flood of updates heading our way.
