New Directions did not win Regionals however Sue, one of four judges at Regionals, actually voted for New Directions. Sue also bought New Directions another year at McKinley High because she can’t imagine a world without the butt of all her jokes. Coach Corcoran adopted Quinn’s baby and named her Beth (the name Puck wanted to give her) “And that’s what you missed on Glee.”

“I have to be honest, Will. I’m having a really difficult time hearing anything you have to say today because your hair looks like a briar patch. I keep expecting racist animated Disney characters to pop up and start singing songs about living on the bayou.” Sue just referenced the first film I ever saw in theater- Song of the South (re-released in 1986). I can’t stop loving Sue.

Finn telling Rachel that he loves her seemed forced. After “Journey” ended that moment seemed even more out of place as it led to absolutely nothing. I know this is just a preview of a season two storyline but p-lease.

Sometimes I wish there were a bigger gap between popular karaoke song selections and those songs performed by New Directions (thanks to Tony Romo’s love of all things Journey I now long for the days of Rick James and the original karaoke classic Super Freak) I’m saying I would’ve voted for Vocal Adrenaline if I were a part of that star studded judges panel. Which judge’s presence surprised you more- Josh Groban or Olivia Newton-John making her second guest appearance on Glee?

WHOA QUINN’S WATER JUST BROKE, pitch perfect emotional note.

What does it say about Rachel that she was, seemingly, the only member of New Directions not at the hospital for the birth of Quinn’s baby? How much did you like the Quinn delivering her baby/Vocal Adrenaline performing Bohemian Rhapsody scene? That scene saved the episode for me.

A few quotes and notes:

“Newton-John? You’re dead to me.” Sue is heating up.

Groban raising his hand to speak during the judges deliberation was classic, I’m hating him less and less by the minute.

“Kiss my ass Josh Groban!” Sue is on fire!

So glad Vocal Adrenaline won, I was very worried that we were about to get the New Directions wins fairy tale ending.

Running Wilde just earned a spot on my DVR. Will Arnett is always welcome in my home.

Will and Emma also seems like a very forced romance that we’ll have to endure in season two.

I miss the days of the kids getting slushied.

Now I’d like to see your score sheets, what did you think of this season finale? What do you think of this first season? What do you expect from season two?

Community “Pascal’s Triangle Revisited” 5/20/2010

TV Recaps

Abed

Britta

Community

DVR

John Michael Higgins

Modern Family

nbc

Professor Slater

season finale

The Family Guy

The Venture Bros.

Tranny Dance
<guid

They literally told the story of the phrase “jump the shark” and that’s exactly what we should expect from Community. When this first season started we thought the references were cute, fun and we were proud of ourselves for recognizing (the ones that we didn’t miss). Of course the references that we did get endeared Community (or Abed) to us. I only hope this magic train keeps on keepin’ on because I don’t want to see what happened to The Family Guy happen to Community. yuck.

<a

For that reason, evidence of just how different the two programs are, I think we should stop comparing the two and just enjoy them for what they are. They are, along with many other programs, the second coming (at least in my lifetime) of “must see TV” or to use the parlance of our times- must DVR TV.

“Pascal’s Triangle Revisited” was the very definition of what I’ve come to know as a “season finale.” Stories that had been building over the course of the season came to a conclusion revealing what we knew (or thought we knew) and a few things we didn’t see comin’. Okay maybe nothing all that unpredictable happened (other than the return of professor girlfriend, personally I’d rather she not have a reoccurring role). Britta professed her love for Jeff. Professor girlfriend (Anyone getting the veiled The Venture Bros.?? When will The Venture Bros. return!?) anyway I was saying that Professor Slater also professed her love (bleh) for Jeff. Also Dean Pelton digs Furries. Not surprised. Troy needs a place to live and thinks moving in with Abed makes perfect sense but Abed is the wiser and knows that best friends don’t stay best friends after rooming together. Annie’s boyfriend Vaughn transfers to a college in Delaware to be on the best hacky sack team in the nation and Annie’s transfering with him. Wait, Annie can’t do that. Thankfully Annie didn’t do that, changed her mind at the last minute. On her way back to the Tranny Dance Annie runs into Jeff, tells him that she’s staying. Jeff tells Annie about Britta and Slater. Jeff and Annie kiss BIG TIME and I couldn’t be happier. Why am I happy that Jeff and Annie kissed? I think people should be responsible and not kiss around but for some reason I like this. How about you, what’d you think of “Pascal’s Triangle Revisited?”

A couple of quotes to hold us over until season two-

“Britta! Your lipstick looks better.”

“Am I black boobs?”

“The Yankee Doodle”

I’d like to thank Community for bringing John Michael Higgins back and ask that we get to see him even more in season two!

Modern Family “Family Portrait” 5/19/2010

TV Recaps

abc

Ave Maria

Jay Prichett

kiss-cam

Lakers

Modern Family

season finale
<guid

Everyone has family, whether they’re your biological family or not. Family are the people we love unconditionally and I think that’s what Jay was sayin’. But what did Phil say?

PHIL QUOTES!

“ridicu-licious”

“Here’s the thing. Kiss-cam is only supposed to be for the enjoyment of the people at the game! They never show that on TV. What people do in the privacy of their own sports arena should be their own business.”

In case you missed it Gloria kissed Phil when they were put on the Kiss-cam at the Lakers game. Gloria was at the game because Jay had to back out because he was helping Luke. Luke working on a school project, due the next day, that required he interview someone that lived through the 1960s hence Jay. As you might imagine Phil was scared to death of Claire and Jay’s reaction when they would inevitably find out about the kiss.

While Phil was at the game Claire was at home preparing for the family portrait that was to happen later in the day. The family would be posing on the stairs and Claire, a perfectionist, wanted to fix that broken step. Finally! Well Claire might be a perfectionist but she is no handy man. So we can expect more from the broken step in season two.

“Pigeons aren’t scared of anything, they stand on electrical wires.” This is just one of the many reasons why Mitchell freaked out when a pigeon became trapped in his home. The pigeon would have been dinner if Cameron were home but he was singing a solo for a wedding of a complete stranger that heard him karaoke and hired him to perform at the wedding. Of course I thought we were learning yet another fun fact about Cameron but the fact turned out to be not so fun. Cameron butchered Ave Maria. Cameron cannot sing but I still love him.

What grade do you give Modern Family‘s first season?

<br

Heck, a few weeks ago we got a hotel consortium of pagan gods. But tonight’s episode gave us a concept as character; Death, in the flesh, roaming the streets of Chicago and preempting a massive, apocalyptic disaster. And, it worked, in a number of perfectly creepy ways.

Julian Richings, whose gaunt, Ichabod Crane features and inhuman complexion target him naturally for roles like this, was nothing short of spellbinding. Channeling the kind of mythological invention and magical realism that Neil Gamain would be proud of, the show heads delivered one of the finest scenes in Supernatural history; Dean sitting down reluctantly to share a deep-dish pizza with Death. Pepperoni and cheese has never seemed so foreboding.

The rest of the episode, ramping its way up for next week’s finale, demonstrated the same tragic-comic flair and graphic novel giddiness. The times have never been darker, but as a cast and crew, I’m not sure I’ve seen Supernatural more alive and cheerful. This episode was crammed full of incident and event, and character dynamics that made each new scene a joy to savor. From giving Matt Frewer a nice opening scene to wrap up the Pestilence story, to a scene sure to become the comedic high point of the season; Crowley’s camera phone snapshot of he and Bobby locking lips.

“Why did you take a picture?”

“ Why did you use your tongue?”

As per the usual, Kripke and company mixed the playfulness with the darker edge the show is known for. The kiss is humorous, but what it signifies—a dangerous deal with Bobby’s soul hanging in the balance—isn’t so much.

Crowley, a relatively new add-on to the cast, has his work cut out for him trying to join this well-knit gang, and so far he’s a welcome addition. I’m hoping he’s less treacherous than he seems, but he is a demon after all. Still unclear how holding Bobby’s soul for collateral is actually making him safe, as I seem to remember it being defined that if you kill the demon holding the contract, you regain the soul. Sort of puts a target on your head, no?

It also must be admired how well the production staff has managed to conjure the apocalypse while delivering only limited carnage. There’s a feel that the world’s just on the edge of getting flushed, but most of it is down to how everything is shot, composed and presented. This is an entire universe taking one, collective deep breath. Just take a look at that fabulous moment where the Big Grim shows up in Chicago for the first time, with a haunting version of the folk song, ‘O, Death’ playing on the soundtrack.

Better still is the intelligence with which the scriptwriters have written the character of Death. He isn’t one more fallen angel, or a small beans demon, with an axe to grind. He’s so old in fact, that his contempt and disdain for such a small scale squabble (the apocalypse, a small scale squabble!) is palpable in his conversations with Dean. He offers the ring freely with the condition that the eldest Winchester make sure his brother does what needs to doing to trap Lucifer in the fire. Wily old Death no doubt already has seen this entire thing go down, and he’s just pushing what needs pushed.

Ackles and Padalecki, as well as Jim Beaver and Misha Collins continue to do fantastic work, and I commend everyone for avoiding more tearful/whiny moments where characters lament and struggle with their fate. Everyone here is behaving like they are in zero hour, making decisions with limited emotional thought because that’s what is needed. Instead of the strange flip-flopping we see on Lost, there’s a consistency to the dramatic direction of the acting.

And now, it all comes down to Sam, it seems. Will Lucifer win the day? Are we going to wrap up the apocalypse this season? Will God make his much teased appearance? And when season 6 rolls around, will it echo what Sam said last night?

“Remember when all we used to do was hunt wendigos? Do you remember that?”

Yes, Sam, I do. And although I’d love to see that again, me thinks you have all come too far for that to happen again. No matter, you are currently in the midst of Supernatural’s best season. Enjoy the ride.

Lost Season Finale

Movie News

TV News

lost

Movie Reviews

season finale
<guid
