Spencer, fails to show up for duty. When Greer investigates, he finds Spencer in his quarters, dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

At first CJ thinks it was a suicide, but Greer tells them he found no gun at the scene. When the crew realizes there is a murderer among them, they begin taking measures to seek out the culprit. Rush makes a point that Spencer was not liked by many for stealing food and water in addition to generally causing trouble.

When Young announces the murder to the crew, they all immediately try to claim innocence and provide alibis. Because the weapon is still missing, Young assigns Scott to do a room-by-room search of the Destiny until it is found.

Rush tells Young that he has found new information regarding the ancient chair but Young is more interested in finding the weapon and the murderer.

A twist complicates matters, however, when Eli and Scott find the murder weapon inside a vent in Col. Young’s room.

When Young comes to investigate, he tells them he obviously didn’t put it there and someone is trying to frame him. The team puts together an interrogation board to question the crew about the murder and Young’s possible involvement in it.

Meanwhile, Eli checks the kino footage inside the destiny, but doesn’t come across anything that can help the investigation.

During the questioning, Camile and Chloe argue when Camile seems to unfairly accuse Young of the crime without proper evidence, disregarding due process. Greer agrees with Chloe and says he will stand up for Young but just as he does Young walks into the room. He makes a simple announcement that he made a deal with Camile to step down as commander of the Destiny if she will drop the charges against him. Camile will now be commanding the Destiny.

When Rush gets word that Camile is now in charge, he immediately asks her for control of his science team. She allows him to do so if he will answer directly to her. After agreeing, he takes his team and heads straight for the ancient chair room. The same chair room that Young specifically told Rush was off-limits to experimenting with.

In Young’s quarters, Scott questions Young as to why he stepped down so easily. Young explains that he did so because he was afraid the doubt cast upon him would divide the crew, something that he could not allow. regardless of the recent shift of power, however, Scott tells him that he and the enlisted soldiers will still answer to Young.

While Eli and Dr. Franklin are researching the chair, Franklin asks Eli to go to the mess room and get him some food. When Eli returns, however, he finds that Franklin decided to sit in the chair and is now stuck with bolts of energy being drilled into his temples. The crew tries to release him but cannot. eventually, the chair seems to turn off on its own and releases Franklin, who collapses.

CJ takes him to the medical quarters, but Franlkin is catatonic - totally unresponsive. Camile wants to know what happened so she orders CJ to try and wake him as soon as possible. Things get heated in the hallway when Young blames Rush for the incident, claiming he pressured Franklin into sitting in the chair by saying it was their only chance to get home.

When the Destiny drops out of FTL, Camile sends a team through the gate to a nearby planet to search for supplies. Sgt. Greer confronts her when he finds he was taken off the away team because she thinks he is a suspect in Sgt. Spencer’s murder.

Meanwhile, Eli finds a deleted portion of footage in the kino’s archives from the exact time Sgt. Spencer was killed. The camera pans away, however, and Scott has a look of shock on his face. He tells Col. Young to go to channel two on the walkie.

On the planet, the scavenging team comes across a crashed alien spaceship while exploring the desert. They tell Rush and he immediately suits up to go to the planet. Young stops him however and makes him go watch the kino footage with the others. The footage shows Sgt. Spencer giving a last message then killing himself. It still doesn’t answer who took the kino and the weapon from the room, however. Camile apologizes to Young but he’ll have none of it and decides to join Rush in investigating the spaceship on the planet.

When they arrive, the team tells them the ship is definitely not ancient. Rush tries to open the hatch while Young sends the others back through the gate. After they are gone, Young confronts Rush and tells him he knows it was him who found Spencer first and took the kino from the room. Rush finally comes clean and says he heard the gunshot and was indeed the first one on the scene. He also admits that he framed Young in order to get a shot at using the chair under Camile’s orders.

Alone on the planet now, the two finally square off and Young pummels Rush. Rush doesn’t back down and attacks Young right back but is ultimately knocked unconscious. Young gets back to the gate just in time before it closes and the Destiny goes back into FTL, leaving Rush stranded on the planet. When he gets back he claims that there was a rock slide and Rush didn’t survive. Because he was just exonerated of Sgt. Spencer’s death, the crew believes him without question.

As the episode comes to a close, Rush finally comes back to consciousness on the planet. As he looks to the night sky on the planet, all he can see are the stars…

As the situation continues to worsen aboard the Destiny, Col. Young is called back to Earth via the communication stones. When he arrives, Col. O’Neil informs him that the IOA back on Earth has come up with a seriously risky plan to get the crew aboard the ship home. In short, the plan is to divert power to the Stargate while the ship “recharges” inside a star. Unfortunately, the plan could also cause the ship to explode.

Thinking on behalf of the members aboard Destiny, Young asks O’Neil for more time to think about the decision. The IOA denies his request; they order Young, Chloe and Eli to use the communications stones to come back to Earth. They send Col. Telford and two scientists in their place to conduct the plan they came up with to get the crew home.

Most viewers will not be surprised that Rush is extremely hostile toward the idea and attempts to stall the other scientists for as long as possible. While undergoing preparations for the experiment, one of the crew members aboard Destiny is near-fatally wounded when a pipe explodes inside a corridor he is working. Telford blames Rush for the accident and forces him to play ball by helping the experiment move forward.

Back on Earth, Eli and Chloe visit their families for what could be the last time (if the ship were to explode while their bodies were still aboard, they would also die on Earth). Eli visits his mother as one of the IOA scientists. The emotional scene is especially hard because he cannot tell her who he really is or what he is really doing. Later that evening, he and Chloe go to a club with her friends (she claims to be a cousin), and the two drink away their sorrows.

Several times during the episode Destiny drops out of FTL which causes the communication stones to be interrupted, briefly causing the three users to come back to their own bodies. At one point, the ship comes out of FTL while Col. Young is making love to his wife. An awkward few seconds pass as Telford actually comes back to his own consciousness during the… festivities.

When the ship finally comes out of FTL for a final time and enters a nearby star to recharge, the scientists and Col. Telford begin to go ahead with the plan. As they route more and more power to the Stargate, however, it begins to overload and the ship begins to shake. Fearing it actually will explode, Col. Telford and the scientists quickly abandon Rush and the crew and go back to the communications stones where they escape home to Earth.

As soon as the three are gone and it is confirmed that Col. Young, Eli and Chloe are safely back aboard destiny, Dr. Rush slyly shuts down the numerous bells and whistles and stops the ship from “overloading”. While the entire crew is still in shock, Rush begins to explain the situation.

With a giant “gotcha” smile on his face, Rush explains that he created the theatrics before them. He tricked Col. Telford and the scientists by making it look as if the systems were overloading so they would leave the ship and allow Col. Young to once again regain command of Destiny.

Luckily, Rush pulled it off without a hitch and later, Col. Young once again uses the communication stones to return to Earth. This time, it is made clear to the IOA that they have no choice but to play by his rules and he is going to command the ship and its crew according to what he sees is in their best interests.

Although they may not make it home for a while, the Destiny is finally its own command, although still flying aimlessly billions of light years from home.

Before the credits roll, however, Col. Young’s wife gets a knock at her door. She opens it… to Col. Telford.

Stargate Universe 1.06: “Water”

TV Recaps

SGU

stargate

Stargate Universe

Water
<guid

The water levels aboard the ship have started to disappear at an alarming rate, with thousands of gallons of water missing from the holding tanks. But there is an even more unsettling detail: nobody has been near the tanks to steal it.

As Rush, Eli and Col. Young try to determine where the water is going, Rush decides that instead of trying to find out who is (presumably) stealing it, they should take the opportunity to gate to a nearby ice planet — which Eli jokingly refers to as “Hoth” — to search for usable ice as a water source.

Using million-year-old spacesuits they found aboard the Destiny, Col. Young and 1st Lt. Scott use the stargate to check out the icy planet, which is very hostile and tremors frequently. While they are gone, Col. Young leaves 1st Lt. Johansen in charge of the crew. She tells Master Sgt. Greer to start searching for the missing water, just in case.

As she is walking alone down one of the corridors on the ship, an alien life-form much like the one 1st Lt. Scott saw on the desert planet in the previous episode appears. It assumes the form of a mirror image of her but suddenly disappears again when Master Sgt. Greer calls for her over the radio.

On the ice planet, Young and Scott finally come across some usable ice, but have no way to transport it to back to the Destiny. Eli, with his seemingly limitless creativity, creates a sort of hover-sled for the two to transport the ice. They begin to load ice onto the sled to send it back to the stargate as quickly as they can before they either run out of air or their ship leaves the system.

Johansen tells Greer and Rush what she saw in the corridor and they decide to try and find the alien life form, which might be responsible for the loss of water. Before they can find it, however, one of the military crew spots it on the ship and opens fire on it with his sidearm. Unsurprisingly the creature is not at all fazed by his attack and in return attacks him, mortally wounding the soldier.

Greer’s response to the life form’s attack on the soldier is to fashion a flamethrower and go hunting for it, but Johansen tells him to use caution, as Scott said the creature on the planet was more helpful than harmful to him.

Meanwhile on the planet, Scott and Young continue to cut away at the ice with plasma cutters to bring it back to the Destiny. While walking towards the hover-sled, however, Scott falls through the ice and becomes wedged in a crevice underneath it. Although Col. Young attempts to rescue him, he cannot free him from the ice.

While the team scrambles to capture and eject the creature from the ship to save their water supply, Scott discovers that his suit is slowly losing pressure and before long he loses consciousness. In a race to save his life, Young continues his struggle to free Scott from the ice to no avail.

Aboard the Destiny, the crew finally captures the creature by luring it into a container of water and decides to send it through the stargate to eject it from the ship. Scott is finally freed from the crevice when a tremor on the planet shifts the ice, and Col. Young is able to pull him back to the surface.

As they reach the gate on the planet, the team aboard Destiny sends the captured creature through. It escapes upon reaching the other side. Before the gate shuts down, Col. Young and 1st Lt. Scott quickly make their way through the gate to the ship.

Although they were able to scavenge a small amount of the ice, the crew still does not have enough water to sustain them. The episode ends with Col. Young in a state of distress, the situation clearly starting to take its toll on him.

Stargate Universe 1.05: “Light”

TV Recaps

Destiny

Light

SGU

stargate

TV Recap
<guid

The ship is still totally out of reserve power and on a collision course with a nearby star.

The only only chance any of the crew seems to have left is the lone shuttle. There is a downside, however, as the shuttle’s life support will only sustain a maximum of 17 people. The only chance they have left is abandoning ship; sending as many as they can to one of the three nearby planets in hope that at least one is habitable. Everyone else will have to face their fate with the Destiny. . .

Even Dr. Rush has given up hope as Col. Young devises a simple lottery to choose the 15 people who will hope to survive by leaving in Destiny’s last shuttle. Two more people will be specifically chosen based on leadership and potential survivability. The rest of the crew obviously does not take this well, but soon realizes there is nothing anyone can do.

As Destiny continues to careen towards the star, Rush tells Col. Young that he would like to withhold his name from the lottery. In what seems like a selfless act from the otherwise cold Dr. Rush, he states that he has always felt his life work was to find the Destiny and his destiny, no pun intended, is with the ship’s fate.

The episode turns to several different characters as they spend what might be their last hours alive on Destiny recording a sort of “message in a bottle” with a kino. After the lottery drawing, the 17 chosen (including 1st Lieutenants Scott and Johansen, but no other particularly notable cast members) disembark on the shuttle in hopes of finding a habitable planet to survive on.

After the shuttle goes radio-silent, the remaining crew on the Destiny spends what they think will be their last moments alive in a variety of ways. Some play cards and try to lighten the mood. Others pray and look to spirituality to give them comfort. Rush, Col. Young and Master Sgt. Greer all go back to their quarters in peace.

Back aboard the shuttle, the hopeful castaways find that although the final planet is rather inhospitable, it will sustain life, and they begin to plot their course for it. Their conversation is dribbled with thoughts of the crew still aboard the Destiny.

After finishing a book in his quarters, Rush suddenly looks at his watch and bounds out of his bed for the observation room where he begins to laugh maniacally before Eli and Chloe.

We soon find that apparently Destiny should have perished hours ago but didn’t because the shields were still holding very strong. In fact, the shields are holding so well that the Destiny is actually flying directly through the star. Before long, power systems begin to come back online as Rush explains this must have been the Destiny’s intention all along – to fly through the star and recharge itself with solar energy.

The engines come back online and Col. Young immediately tells Rush to get communications up so he can contact the shuttle and have them return to the Destiny.

Aboard the shuttle, the team fears the Destiny is finally gone and their hopes hit rock bottom just before they hear Col. Young calling them over the radio. 1st Lt. Scott answers an order to return to the ship immediately before the Destiny leaves the system behind.

As the Destiny begins to gain speed, however, the shuttle cannot keep up with it, even at full speed, to intercept its course and dock again. Rush and Eli quickly devise a plan to have Scott pilot the shuttle around the nearby planet to create a slingshot effect which should give the shuttle enough speed to land on the Destiny.

After a tense course readjustment, Scott manages to catch up with the Destiny and roughly lands the shuttle back on the ship, all crew safe and sound.

Before the episode ends, however, Col. Young confronts Rush on why he withdrew his name for the lottery. It suddenly strikes him that perhaps Rush knew all along the Destiny would survive its trip through the star. Although Rush doesn’t admit that he knew anything, the episode ends with Col. Young’s suspicion of Rush skyrocketing through the roof.

2012 has a teaser trailer

Featured

Movie Trailers

day after tomorrow

films

independence day

roland emmerich

stargate

summer blockbuster

Trailers
<guid
