The departure deal banned O’Brien from any print or television interviews before May 1, 2010. He slyly filmed this interview before that date, but since it will air a day after the ban ends, he is fulfilling the agreement that was signed. CBS will have a fun time in advertising the interview, however, since he can’t be shown being interviewed until the day the segment will air.

According to his exit deal, O’Brien will not be allowed to talk about his old bosses at NBC, or Jay Leno’s return to The Tonight Show. Instead, he is expected to talk about his decision to leave NBC instead of pushing back his schedule 30 minutes so that Jay Leno could come back to late-night television. O’Brien was only on The Tonight Show for seven months, and was booted off due to low ratings. However, Jay Leno’s current ratings are dropping to the level of O’Brien’s when he headlined the show.

During the interview, O’Brien will show footage from his stage show, the 30-city “Legally Prohibited from Being Fully On Television Tour.” Along for the ride from city-to-city are friends Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and Andy Richter. However, musician Max Weinberg did not join him on the comedy tour.

O’Brien is also expected to discuss his late-night show on TBS, which premieres in November, following George Lopez. Max Weinberg is not expected to appear. Weinberg put his name in the running to replace The Tonight Show’s band leader Kevin Eubanks, set to leave this month. However, American Idol music director Rickey Minor was hired as Eubanks’ replacement instead. This gives Weinberg more time to remain Bruce Springsteen’s drummer, as there reportedly were numerous conflicts between his work for O’Brien and his touring schedule.

O’Brien was recently named on Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People list under the artists category, something of an accomplishment. His essay was written by George Lopez, host of TBS’ Lopez Tonight. Lopez had only kind words about O’Brien, explaining, “Conan’s tenacity and wit have been an inspiration to me on my own late-night show. I’m happy and proud that we’ll be playing on the same team when he comes to Basic Cable.”

Bye Bye Earl

TV News

My Name Is Earl

nbc

TBS

report a couple of days ago about the possibility of the NBC sitcom My Name Is Earl getting a thirteen episode revival, but alas this shall not be. Representatives of Twentieth Century Fox confirmed for the hopeful fan base that the possibility of Earl gaining more episodes on TBS will not happen. Instead of trying to summarize the entire statement from the good folks of The Hollywood Reporter, here’s the whole thing:

“Greg Garcia’s brilliant ‘My Name Is Earl’ kept America laughing for the past four seasons and certainly deserved to continue for many more,” 20th TV said in a statement Thursday.
“While we had hoped to find a way to produce additional episodes for TBS, in the final analysis we simply could not make the economics work without seriously undermining the artistic integrity of the series. As none of us, Greg included, want the show to go out on anything but a high note, we regret that we must put to rest any speculation that ‘Earl’ will continue.
“We are grateful to everyone at TBS for their enthusiasm for the series and wish to offer our heartfelt thanks to the cast and crew of ‘My Name Is Earl’ for their incredible work.”

My Name Is Earl will, however, still continue to air its reruns on TBS, but no future episodes are planned.

My Name Is Revival

TV News

jason lee

My Name Is Earl

nbc

TBS

Twentieth Century Fox
<guid

Sliding towards them is a thirteen episode deal that could bring the once-was-cancelled TV series on the silver screen even longer. Then again, it would completely make sense for them to continue cashing in on one of their re-run sitcoms.

"You hear that? It might be us coming back with more episodes."

Nothing is set in stone at the moment as these negotiations are still in their baby stages. Still, for those who are fans of the four season comedy would be happy as can be to still see Jason Lee (when he’s not in Alvin and the Chipmunks). My Name Is Earl is about “Earl J. Hickey”, a petty crook with occasional run-ins with the law, whose newly won $100,000 lottery ticket is lost when he is hit by a car. Lying in a hospital bed, under the influence of morphine, he develops a belief in the concept of karma when he hears about it during an episode of Last Call with Carson Daly. He decides he wants to turn his life around and makes a list of all the bad things he’s ever done. After doing his first good deed, he finds his $100,000 lottery ticket. He sees this as a sign and, with his new lucky money, he proceeds to cross items off the list one by one by doing good deeds in correspondence to the list items to atone for them.

Currently My Name Is Earl is running its seasons on TBS as it still sits in cancellation mode with thanks of NBC who still hold onto the sitcom.
