Mann VillageSam Raimi’s Ghost House horror genre production label will now branch into a new one — Spooky Pictures, which will focus on delivering horror/thriller films to family audiences. This seems odd coming right off the heels of Disney’s deal with Guillermo Del Toro to create Double Dare You.

The first film to be produced under Spooky Pictures will be The Substitute, a remake of a Danish film by Ole Bornedal. The remake will be directed by Scott Derrickson, who previously helmed The Day the Earth Stood Still and The Exorcism of Emily Rose. The film deals with “a terrified sixth-grade class as the students race to reveal to their parents that their new substitute teacher is an evil alien being.”

The Faculty for minors? I say it has potential.

Raimi will produce the film with his longtime creative partner Rob Tapert, who goes back to the Evil Dead days. Derrickson is writing the film himself alongside Paul Harris Boardman, who also co-wrote Emily Rose.

20th Century Fox has released this new international trailer for The Day the Earth Stood Still which gives us a nice long look at the robot Gort. I do think this is the first true visual of Gort. What is Gort you ask? Well he is a big bad robot ready to crush the earth. A more precise well thought out blurb can be found below.

Gort is a fictional humanoid robot in the 1951 film The Day the Earth Stood Still and its 2008 remake. The giant metal robot accompanies Klaatu, a visitor to Earth from a distant planet, aboard a flying saucer. He does not speak, but uses a beam weapon projected from beneath a visor to vaporize weapons and obstacles. Klaatu described him as being part of an interstellar police force. He claims that the people of the universe constructed numerous robots like Gort and gave them irrevocable powers to respond to violent actions in order to “preserve the peace.” He further claims that “There’s no limit to what [Gort] could do. He could destroy the Earth

While searching for a little bit of info on this movie, besides my first post on it here, I found this comment on the clip on yahoo’s page; “Johnny Mnemonic called he wants his suit back”. I could not agree more with this statement.
While I will probably be invited to see a screening of this, I would not pay my hard earned cash for this film. Not even a DVD review of this. What do you all think of this? I believe you can find some Keanue fans at our last post of this movie.

The Day the Earth Stood Still will open on December 12th of this year.
