The trailer for The Company Men has premiered on Yahoo! Movies. Check it out  below the jump:

From the official plot synopsis:

It centers on a year in the life of three men (Affleck, Jones, Cooper) trying to survive a round of corporate downsizing at a major company – and how that affects them, their families, and their local communities.

The Company Men debuted at the Sundance Film Festival early this year, and got very good reviews. Going into the festival, it was one of my most-anticipated films that I sadly missed because I wasn’t attending. John Wells, who previously was one of the top creative forces behind ER and The West Wing, helmed the film which stars Ben Affleck, Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones, Chris Cooper, Maria Bello, and Rosemarie DeWitt. The film is timed perfectly during our current economic climate of layoffs and mergers. This trailer only confirms the fact that this should be a great drama that definitely has Oscar potential.

The Company Men opens in limited release on October 22nd.

I didn’t fall head over heels in love with Tropic Thunder as many other people did; I found it overlong and Jack Black’s performance sucked all the air out after Robert Downey Jr. would fill it up again. That’s not to say it’s bad. It’s really very good, just not mind-blowing.

One film that was very very bad was Men in Black 2, which rehashed every element of the first Will Smith/Tommy Lee Jones vehicle and halved the amount of laughs.

So, the news that Tropic Thunder scribe Etan Cohen (also responsible for the criminally underrated Idiocracy) will be taking over screenwriting duties for Men in Black 3 is definitely good news for the franchise. What isn’t good news is that so far, Smith and Jones haven’t signed deals to return. Maybe it’s time for new actors to fill the MiB shoes, but somehow I think I’d miss these two far too much.

However, there’s hope: Variety states that it’s fairly unlikely that Columbia Pictures would greenlight the project without the involvement of Will and Tommy Lee.

By no means an unknown Hollywood name himself, Tommy Lee Jones has worked with some of the biggest names in show-biz, co-starring with such talents as Harrison Ford, Will Smith, and Jim Carrey.

Now, Jones is in talks to share the screen with current Hollywood A-lister Matthew McConaughey in Lakeshore Entertainment’s The Lincoln Lawyer.

The Lincoln Lawyer, based on the 2005 best-selling novel of the same title, is the story of lawyer Mickey Haller, whose office is located in the back of his Lincoln. The cases he represents are generally pretty mundane, until he takes on the case of an L.A. playboy facing murder accusations.

McConaughey has already signed on to play the part of Mickey Haller, but it is as of yet undetermined what role Jones will be taking if he is cast in the film. What is certain, though, is that Jones’s interest in being involved with the film goes beyond being part of the movie’s cast.

Although a veteran actor, Jones is a fledgling director, with only one feature film and a made-for-TV movie under his belt. The current negotiations with Lakeshore Entertainment could potentially lead to Jones not only be cast in The Lincoln Lawyer, but being put at the helm as the film’s director as well.

Despite his minimal directing experience, Jones’s film The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada made its way to the 2005 Cannes Film Festival, and even earned Jones the award for Best Actor at the festival.

While no agreement has been reached between Jones and Lakeshore Entertainment so far, The Lincoln Lawyer would no doubt be an excellent opportunity for Jones to bring the success of his directing debut to the film, and eventually lead to Jones garnering the same level of credibility as a director that he’s earned as an actor.
