Stephen King’s The Shining is not only a classic film directed by one of the best of all time, Mr. Stanley Kubrick, but also an endless source of artistic inspiration and expression as evidenced by this poster designed by Nick Tassone.

Chris Thornley designed this homage to Martin Scorsese’s Mean Streets which had a fantastic official poster when the film was released in 1973 starring Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel.

If you’ll remember the line, “Make yours like mine.” from Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums then you know exactly what Ibrahim Youssef has illustrated in his poster for The Royal Tenenbaums.

Another Chris Thornley design this time perfectly capturing the dark humor and playfulness of Christian Bale’s American Psycho. This is as perfect a time as any to point out that recently Bale was quoted as saying he used Tom Cruise as a model for his Psycho role. I don’t know whether or not Cruise should take that as a compliment.

Matt Needle designed this Michael Caine Get Carter poster, unlike Sylvester Stallone’s remake the original was as cool as Caine and Matt Needle’s poster has harnessed that coolness.

As though we all don’t already think this — the Internet is AWESOME. The Internet, whether Al Gore’s brainchild or a Big Bang-style happy accident, allows artists to share their work with the largest audience ever. As a member of that audience I say “thank you!” (I’m not sure where Al Gore stands on Intellegent Design but I’m pretty sure he’s never been opposite the Big Bang theory.) I say all of this because daily there are wonderful works of art, inspired by film, put on display (the Internet) and every instance I find/know of/or you share with me/us, I will share with you! Today the work of Brandon Schaefer, found at his website (under construction right now) which includes Fred Savage’s The Wizard, The Rocketeer and Jack Nicholson’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

as well as Bill Murray’s Groundhog Day, Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and (yet another!) Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining! One of these days we’ll have a gallery of just The Shining inspired works of art!

Force actually isn’t a word I’d normally use when talking about either Wilson or Allen but as a native Texan and a big Allen fan this couldn’t be more exciting.

Owen Wilson has signed on to star in an untitled Woody Allen project. I’ve been a fan of (though not always pleased with) Owen Wilson since Bottle Rocket. I think Owen’s best work is done when co-writing with and acting for Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums), those projects seem to be about making something, as opposed to just earning a paycheck.

I also think the cool, dry-wit acting that Anderson gets out of Wilson is perfect for an Allen comedy. Allen, in my opinion is the Stanley Kubrick of comedy (well maybe it’s a close race between Allen and Mel Brooks). Speaking of Brooks, he, Allen and Wilson all share the wonderful ability to write great comedy for themselves to then act out on film. Of course before we see the Allen/Wilson project we will be subjected to the likes of Marmaduke and a Meet the Fockers sequel. Hopefully Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger will tide us over.

The first trailer to The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Wes Anderson’s throwback to The Mouse and the Motorcycle-style stop motion animation starring George Clooney, Meryl Streep, and the rest of Anderson’s usual gang, was met with mixed reviews. Some loved the aesthetic, some found it distracting; personally, I loved it. He seems to have taken Ronald Dahl’s original story and married it to a style that’s completely distinct from anything we’ve seen on the big screen, perhaps ever.

If you were in that first crowd, you might not be fully convinced by this new trailer. However, you will realize that the movie seems prety darn funny — quite a bit funnier than the director’s last output, The Darjeeling Limited. And once again, Clooney proves he has a voice of the gods.
