‘The Hangover’ Gets its Sequel: Release Set for 2011

A follow-up to this summer’s surprise hit of the year, The Hangover, will begin production this October with a Memorial Day 2011 release. Hangover director Todd Philips will start shooting after he completes work on the road-trip comedy Due Date.

Due Date will star Hangover stand-out, Zach Galifianakis, who travels with an expectant father as they race across the country to see the birth of his first child.

Production will start this Fall for a summer 2010 release.

Philips, along with Scot Armstrong (Old School, Semi-Pro), began writing the still-untitled Hangover sequel after favorable test screenings showed potential for box office success. The Hangover has grossed $216 million domestically and has become the second highest grossing R-rated comedy behind Eddie Murphy’s Beverly Hills Cop.

Hangover should leap Axel Foley sometime this summer.

The Hangover centers on a Las Vegas bachelor party that turns “into a race against time when three hung-over groomsmen awaken after a night of drunken debauchery to find that the groom has gone missing, and they must attempt to get him to the alter before his wedding day.”
