This Week In Reboots: Police Academy

Here we go again. In Hollywood’s ongoing attempt to apparently revamp every once-successful film franchise, New Line Cinema has reportedly decided to reboot the popular 80′s cop comedy series Police Academy.

The Hollywood Reporter has gotten word that New Line is preparing to resurrect the series, which has been absent from the big screen since 1994′s deplorable seventh installment, Police Academy: Mission To Moscow. The franchise attempted to continue on television, spawning a one-season failure in 1997, then disappeared completely.

Don’t expect to see any familiar faces popping up in this reboot, though. The new version will most likely be a totally new take on the series, functioning more as a complete remake of the raunchy 1984 original, then probably continuing through its own never ending slew of sequels.

The remake won’t be populated entirely by fresh faces, though. Original series producer Paul Maslansky will be on-board to help steer the new movie into (hopefully) the same territory as the original, and he has high hopes for the public’s, and old fans’ receptions.

Maslansky told The Hollywood Reporter:

“It’s going to be very worthwhile to the people who remember it and to those who saw it on TV. It’s going to be a new class. We hope to discover new talent and season it with great comedians. It’ll be anything but another movie with a numeral next to it. And we’ll most probably retain the wonderful musical theme.”

So, even though we can guess what your answers will be, we want to know: New Police Academy or no?
