Twilight Saga: New Moon Coverage SDCC Panel

Girls have been lining up since yesterday morning for the highly anticipated film. Now, its finally arrived after a speedy show of Sorority Row and Astro Boy trailers. Everyone claps in anticipation with who will show up.

The first of which is Chris Weitz, who gets a hardy round of applause. The woman who plays Alice comes out, everyone shrieks as they wait for Bella who everyone starts sitting up in their seats for. Taylor Lautner comes up and everyone else who isn’t sitting down starts to get up, shrieks continue as I Love Taylor signs come out. Now it comes to a deafening roar as Robert Pattinson comes up, everyone snapping pictures like its the paparazzi at the red carpet. A couple of girls start tearing up when he comes up on stage. which is kind of strange.

Question: To Chris; tell us how you became a fan of the Twilight Books

Chris: I’ve been stalking Rob Pattinson for the last ten years, so when I got a chance to get within touching distance of him I got into the opportunity (crowd laughs0. I think its a really extraordinary case that was assembled for the first film. Like most people of the male gender I had not read Twilight but once I read it, I realized it dealt with all of these deep emotions like heartbreak, first love, the ecstasy of reunion. I felt like I could sympathize with Bella’s character in New Moon.

New Moon Comic ConQuestion: To Ashley: What has it been like for you this past year?

Ashley: Its been incredible to be a part of this incredible franchise. We have amazing fans and all the people here are so supportive and caring. I learned a ton and it was an incredible first job.

Speaker: So Taylor…(Crowd shrieks)

Question: To Taylor; Everyone wants to know about Jacob Blacks’ transformation, how you physically transformed yourself.

Taylor: Well Jacob, he goes through a lot in this movie. he transforms mentally and emotionally which is extremely important but the most challenging was physically. I had a lot of hard work for me after filming Twilight. I worked really hard to try and transform Jacob’s body so I can try to portray him correctly for you guys. I hope that you guys are pleased when you see the results.

Question: To Kristen; Bella’s story arc starts to develop in New Moon, she becomes a real protagonist. Was it more difficult to prepare for this movie?

Kristen: It wasn’t about the preparation, it was a lot harder to go through this movie going through with what I have to go through. she’s less of a protagonist at the beginning of the story, she’s a non participant in her own life, she dies when she is heartbroken by Edward so its not that easy.

Question: To Robert: In the book, even though you leave Bella your still an intricate part of her story. Your constantly in her thoughts, how did you represent that on screen?

Robert: I did very little to help that situation, but thanks to Chris and the special effects team that designed the thing on where I just stand on a green box and look and stay relatively expressionless, which is just the way I like it. That’s just it and that’s how it turns out in the movie and I hope it turns out good.

Chris: We really appreciate the energy and the devotion, I appreciate the love that the Twilight fans bring to the books and see how being true to the books are the key to making the movies work. In thanks to you I brought this following clip:

BELLA/JACOB CLIP

Bella gets up on her own motorcycle, Jacob glances at her, saying “You look scared.”

"I’m not" she says while he caresses her fingers. He explains where each switch and nob that she needs to know is as she kicks on the ignition. When she lifts her head up, she sees a some what translucent figure of Edward appear in front of her, freaking her out for a moment. She snaps out of it and gets a twinge of adventure jolted into her, immediately kicking up the bike into full gear and speeding down the muddy road. Frustrated she continues to go even faster, a couple of figures of Edward pass on by. She looses control and is flung out of the bike, hitting a rock on the floor.

Jacob speeds over to Bella’s aid and helps her sit up.

"Are you trying to get yourself killed? Forget it, no one bikes."

A bloody gash on the side of her head begins to form, she apologizes for bleeding. Jacob then says “Its just blood Bella, no big deal” then taking off his shirt and getting the gash wiped off of her head.

QUESTION AND ANSWER:

Question: Rob I saw you in How To Be and I thought i twas an excellent movie. I thought that your mannerisms lent themselves really well to comedy. are you doing any more comedic films in the future? its not a trick question.

Robert: Yeah, I mean I don’t know if I’m particularly funny but I think that one of my legs is shorter than the other one so it makes me look really awkward. I can look like an idiot but not sure if I can be witty.

Question: What I wanted to know, throughout the four book series that the darkest part of your characters, they’re all very selfish. What part of you did you have to bring out to really portray that?

Ashley: Well I mean that its not that hard to be selfish really. I think everyone is kind of selfish. I think with Alice I had a lot of fun playing her because she’s very optimistic and fun and I try to be positive and a generally happy person. There’s a really intense bond that she has with her family and I have the same bond with my family so I use that.

Kristen: I think that she’s intent on doing what she needs to do and that even when she changes her mind she’s ok with it. She’s sort of everywhere, she doesn’t have to explain herself and she feels how she feels and that’s it, especially to him.

Taylor: I would hope that most of my close friends and family, or people that know me would say that I’m more like Jacob’s pre transformation side because that’s before he goes wacko. Yeah, I hope I’m more friendly and outgoing instead of this dark and disturbed person, he’s a monster.

Chris: Your very cold to the touch and skin like marble and that you glow like a diamond when the sun hits you.

Robert: Yeah, I kind of look a bit like him. (smirks)

Question: To Robert; I have to go to the second best and take the Edward that was up here, this question is for Rob and I’m in love with your music and your style. I wanted to say if you could ever do any open mic nights with the fans ever again?

Robert: Yeah, I’m just too much of a pussy I guess. Yeah, no I’d love to. Yeah I think that everyone should do open mic. It’s a really healthy thing to do and I’d love to do it again. It’s like I’m cutting a record when I do it so, ya know.

Question: To Chris; Have any of you guys seen the new moon fan trailer reaction videos, what do you think and are you afraid?

Chris: I and everybody in the editing room have seen the fan reaction videos and are pleased and tickled by them. Some of them are very intense in their reactions and I wouldn’t want to get them mad at me by getting anything wrong in the movie. To be honest, the editor peter lambert and I should do the fan reaction video to the fan reaction video because it’s just incredibly amusing and inspiring in these very dark and long days when we work at the rather tedious job at putting together little bits of film.

BELLA/ALICE/EDWARD CLIP

Bella and Alice are in Italy, driving down the road crammed at the sides by men in red hoods. Bella is panicking, trying to jump out as soon as possible. Alice tells her before she runs off that he’ll be at the clock tower and that he will try to go out to reveal himself, that she’s the only one who can stop him.

Slow motion shots of Bella trying to weave past the crowds of red hooded people, trying to make her way towards the clock tower. When she goes to the front of the fountain, Edward is shown depressed and is taking off his shirt, in the shadows ready to go walk outside. Bella (in slo-mo still) runs through the fountain and shouts “Edward, Edward no!” right before he’s going to take his first step out into the sun where the clip ends.

More Q&A questions from the cast will be posted up later along with what was said in the Twilight Saga: New Moon press conference.
